March 5-11 is National Sleep Awareness Week, an annual public awareness and education program to promote the importance of sleep. Many factors can affect your sleep, but at Cincinnati Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Kitzmiller and his team focus primarily on the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. While snoring can be annoying, it is often a symptom of a life-threatening condition called obstructive sleep apnea, where the airway collapses during sleep and causes the person to stop breathing and awaken multiple times per hour with a gasp. Untreated, sleep apnea can lead to excessive fatigue, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and even death. During Sleep Awareness Week, Dr. Kitzmiller will be hosting free public awareness open houses at various locations throughout Cincinnati to help educate the public about the importance of quality sleep. Dr. Kitzmiller, his team and representatives from local sleep labs will be on hand to provide free screening and information on diagnosis and treatment options for snoring and sleep apnea, including CPAP, Oral Appliance Therapy, and surgery. A sleep apnea sufferer, Dr. Kitzmiller has been treating himself as well as hundreds of others with Oral Appliance Therapy. An Oral
