SECTION 2

GOVERNANCE

STRUCTURE & MANAGEMENT

CILT is the membership organisation of choice for logistics and transport professionals globally and gives individuals and organisations access to the tools, the knowledge and the connections vital to success in the logistics and transport industry. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia (CILTA) is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). CILTA is the professional body for those engaged in transport and physical distribution. CILTA was formerly formed as an Australian Branch, in Sydney on 18th January 1935. CILTA operates under the Royal Charter “to promote, encourage and co-ordinate the study and advancement of the science and art of transport in Australia.” Membership of the institute is open to both men and women, without restriction as to nationality or place of residence. Australia is one of 35 branches around the globe with an active membership of over 35,000. CILTA abides by the International by-laws of 2010; a complete copy of the By Laws is on the CILT web site http://www.ciltinternational.org CILT International operates via a Board of directly elected Trustees, President and Vice Presidents, our Patron (HRH Princess Anne), Committees of the Board, Royal Charter and Representative Advisory Groups. CILT Australia is represented by our National Chair Dr Kim Hassall and International Vice President, Dr Neville Binning. Both Kim and Neville are supported by the National Council. The National Chair and Treasurer oversee the CEO and ensure responsible management of the institute’s overall day to day national services. The CILT International By-Laws provides for a voluntary and independent National Council to be responsible for the institute’s overall management and specifies, inter alia, the National Council’s powers and responsibilities and how Councillors are elected and re-elected by the Members. CILT Australia applies the principles of the CILT International Code of Conduct, which sets minimum standards of governance, management and accountability for the institute. Adherence to the Code is monitored by CILT International and Committees of the Board.

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT

Dr Kim Hassall CPL FCILT National Chair CILT-Australia

CILT-Australia is now 85 years old and is one of the oldest territories in the 36 CILT international family. The Institute was founded in the UK in 1919 under royal charter and celebrated its 100th anniversary last year in Manchester. The Australian Chapter was formed in 1935. But like many Associations many of our senior and lifetime fellows are becoming less active and our future lies with the younger technical savvy generations. In fact, the March to June 2020 period saw virtually all events go virtual with some two thirds of our activities being zoomed, teams run or skyped. This included research conferences, webinars and online seminars. In November 2020 our National awards were run in Brisbane. The event was a great success with some household regional and international names picking up awards. In all CILT- Australia activities totalled 57 events over the year. A dozen were events that were partnered with co-operating associations and event organizers. Across Australia we held some 10 site visits with the Victorian Branch organizing a highly successful regional conference in Wodonga in February 2020 at LaTrobe University’s regional campus. This was the last purely face to face event before the Corona-19 virus lockdowns occurred. Since March 2020 there was a massive webinar program that was available to our members. Several of these were delivered by our international branches highlighting the freight, logistics and supply chain responses to the virus’s impacts across different continents. The new Philippines Chapter continued under Australia’s stewardship and launched two highly successful webinars that drew international interest. There is potentially a great Chapter in the making through the efforts of the locally enthusiastic team. We also work with our CILT New Zealand colleagues on various fronts and we congratulate Fiona Knight from New Zealand in becoming the new regional International Vice President on the CILT-International council, replacing Australia’s Dr Neville Binning. The proposed 36 nation CILT-International Conference, planned for Perth, was moved from October 2020 to June 2021 but this will again be examined against the backdrop of the accelerating COVID-19 pandemic in many of our member countries along with massive disruptions to International aviation. I express my considerable thanks to our National Council members who have continued to support CILTAustralia’s national and International directions in its IT, events, WILAT and Next Generation programs and our forthcoming educational directions. Again, special thanks to our CEO, and Treasurer who have both contributed very significantly to the Institute in this most difficult year. Considerable thanks go to our corporate sponsors and company members and the event sponsors on whom we heavily rely. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 16

IMMEDIATE PAST CHAIR

Neville Binning Immediate Past Chair

For the past 12 months I continued to serve on the National Council as Immediate Past Chairperson of CILT Australia. Together with others from the National Council and our CEO Karyn Welsh I have been focussed on the International Conference to be hosted by CILT Australia. This was scheduled for late October 2020 in Perth WA. However, the CoVid-19 pandemic has prevented this occurring and so the Conference must necessarily be deferred. The difficulty of course is predicting when the world might be sufficiently free of the pandemic such that international travel to Perth can be re-established. Current best estimate is for the International Conference to be rescheduled to late October 2022. I note that the CoVid-19 pandemic has also very much constrained our in-person activities within Australia. Principally through the efforts of our CEO Karyn Welsh CILT Australia has though continued to serve members through webinars, zoom based meetings and the like. Karyn’s initiative and efforts have indeed been well recognised by those of the CILT International Administration.

CEO’S REPORT

Karyn Welsh CMILT CEO, CILT Australia

Membership I would like to welcome our 55 new members for the 2019/2020 financial year. Amongst these new additions were also members that re-activated their membership with the institute and a number who had transferred to Australia from other International branches. We also congratulated 10 members on their upgrade to a higher membership status, recognizing their growing skills and experience in their career and the contribution they are making to the Transport and Logistics (T&L) Industry. Keep up the great work! We have a vast membership with members in varying areas of Transport, Logistics and the Supply Chain - transporting passengers, moving freight, Defence and managing Australian domestic and international supply chains. We also have vast International links to over 35 Countries within the CILT International Network. It has been a difficult year for us all as we have had to adapt quickly to the changing environment, technologies, international and state border closures, air travel and more as a result of COVID19. A big shout out to all those staff in the Transport industry that kept the country moving. We are a global family of 35,000 members in over 40 countries, dedicated to giving individuals and organisations access to the tools, the knowledge and the connections vital to success in the logistics and transport industry.

Over 2019 CILT-Australia ran some 30 events and gained member access to a further 63 events through invitations, or facilitated arrangements, with conference, seminar and masterclass organizers and associations, with whom we have reciprocal arrangements. These events awarded Continuing Professional Development points for our attending members. Webinars became the safest event that CILTA was able to have as a result of COVID and by joining forces with CILT International we were able to deliver an event on an average of one per week.

_____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 18

Through our educational suite and our commitment to high standards, we help professionals at all levels to grow, to develop their careers and to access better jobs. Membership continues to grow within Australia with 15 new members already in the 20/21 financial year; We still have a number of outstanding renewals for this year and I’d like to encourage you all to maintain the currency of your membership and to continue to engage with the networking events organized by your state committees. I look forward to welcoming on board all the new 2019/20 members.

Section Committees: QLD (based in Brisbane) Hunter (based in Newcastle) NSW (based in Sydney) ACT (based in Canberra) VIC (based in Melbourne) WA (based in Perth)

New Developments I wish to acknowledge all the support provided by CILT International to all global branches as we all came to terms with COVID19 and the impacts that it would have on our business plans for the year. Our International Conference that was scheduled for October 2020 was pushed back to October 2021 but following an announcement made by Alan Joyce on when Qantas plans to be flying in the new normal we decided to push it back to October 2022. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 19

In October we 2019 our business case for the Philippines Branch that will fall under CILT Australia whilst it establishes itself was approved. In May 2020 they received their first grant payment and on the 31st July 2020 they held their first webinar.

Member Engagement Hub In March 2020 we all found ourselves heading into lockdown as a Nation. The National Council saw the need to engage more with our members over this difficult time and had a Strategy meeting to decide how we may engage more with your members. CILT Interviewed on IMPORTEXPORT TV in late August. Both Steve Campbell and Karyn Welsh have appeared on this program.

Towards the end of April 2020 the International Business Forum of CILT International formed with the objective of bringing together entrepreneurial members and corporate members of CILT to the global networking, business generation and smart partnership. Discussions included the danger and opportunity amid COVID19. On danger of pandemic, CILT best practices need to be adhered to and an opportunity the new normal should be adapted faster in order to not be left behind. Stronger Together.

Governance I would like to thank all of the National Council and their individual section committees for the time and effort they donated over the past twelve months (my third year) with CILTA and for all the work they do to support my role! This role is challenging to say the least and without the support of each and every one of the States we’d not be able to deliver on the needs of our members. Both Kim Hassall, National Chair, Doug Golden, Treasurer and the remaining members of the National Council have been working tirelessly to continuously move CILT Australia forward to becoming the “Truly International Organization”; an Institute where members are recognized

_____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 20

globally and rewarded for investing in their learning and CILT Australia is continually looking at ways where we can provide further avenues to members to continue their educational journey.

Future Goals I’d like to encourage members to nominate for an upgrade and be recognised for their experience and qualifications in the industry. Focus for 2019/20 has been on developing an online forum where members can come together for professional exchange in a variety of ways. We have a partner TechInnovate who is helping us to develop this forum and we hope to release it late December or mid-late January.

We are also focusing on expanding our Young Professional Team and our Women in Logistics and Transport as well as re-establishing committees in Tasmania and South Australia. We were excited to launch our new and first International Branch that will be operating under Australia’s direction and financially supported by CILT International for its first year, whilst it establishes its own sustainability. Very exciting and a first for CILT Australia! Welcome Philippines!

CILTA Professional Development Programs We are continually looking, designing and producing programs that aim to reduce the gaps in the current T&L market. We have been actively involved in the National and State skills review for the industry managed by Australian Industry Skills Council and in Victoria as part of the Industry Advisory Group for the Victorian Skills Commissioner. We have been drawing on the vast CILT International Professional Development Programs and offerings and adapting them to an Australian market. Promoting those offered by the Industry and of the vocational and tertiary level institutions. We are focused on our Students, our future leaders – building awareness of the Industry and how they can make a difference for the future.

ACT & SOUTHERN NSW SECTION

Scott Martin CMILT Acting Chair ACT & Southern NSW Section ACT makes a commitment to host a number of events to its members and the regional community with support from the National Office to circulate advice of the events to its members. The first half of the year was very productive, with the following events held: National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy and Action Plan – speaker Naa Opoku, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development (July) Army Demonstration Day (August) Growing a sustainable, vibrant and competitive maritime industry – speaker Teresa Lloyd, Maritime Industry Australia Ltd (October) Growing Australian agriculture through more efficient transport and logistics – speaker Dr Andrew Higgins, CSIRO (November, in conjunction with the 2018-19 AGM) With the impact of COVID19 in the second half of the year, we found ourselves on hold, as we worked through, with valuable assistance from National Office, the complexities of logistical arrangements for future virtual events. For 2020-21, we are looking to enable on-line event access by both staff of the Department of Infrastructure (a CILTA corporate member, our ACT partner and longstanding event host) and section members, as well as by the wider Canberra community. I’d like to thank Phil Potterton, Pat McNamara and Marcus James for their efforts over the last twelve months. I’d also like to thank the National Office for their work in keeping a regular activity of webinars both nationally and internationally circulated to our members, despite states having limitations on what they could do as a result of COVID19."

DEFENCE REPORT

CAPTAIN Fiona McNaught Royal Australian Navy Defence Representative

In 2018/19 year, we saw a change in the way the Royal Australian Navy sponsors professional association membership. Rather than automatically paying all renewals, policy has changed such that individuals are required to pay for their own renewals up front and seek reimbursement from Navy. This ensures that Navy is getting value for money in that only the people who are motivated to engage in ongoing professional development are funded for association membership. This process put in to manage this is simple with reimbursement being made quickly by Navy. In 2020 Navy Workforce Management sent a reminder out to all Maritime Logistics Officers on (07 August 2020) reminding them about the reimbursement arrangements for professional association membership fees, providing a link to the process explanation, finance codes to make it happen, and finally, encouraging them promote the value of professional association membership to their sailors. Since this time, we have seen more Navy renewals come through than the same time last year.

EDUCATION REPORT

Associate Professor Kim Hassall (PhD MBus CPL FCILT) Chair Education and Professional Development Activities and the New Environment The first eight months of the year CILT-Australia sections ran, on average, a monthly face to face event. Then, from March 2020 onwards, the State Corona-19 lockdowns began and impacted for the last four months of the financial year. The dynamics of our events from this point onwards saw the heavy reliance on internetbased applications for webinars, seminars and international conferences becoming the educational delivery norm. The webinars that were run in the last four months of the year were not surprisingly heavily focused on the impact of the Corona-19 pandemic on Supply Chains, both domestic and international and by the respective transport modes. All the 57 events run over the year attracted Continuing Professional Developing points (CPD) which can be used for membership maintenance but also for CILT-Australia’s Professional Certifications: Certified Professional Logistician, Certified Transport Planner, and Certified Passenger Professional. There was a continuing steady demand for these professional certifications from both domestic and international applicants. It should be noted that not all applicants get approved for these certifications on first attempt. Further courses from Academy Global, the University of Technology Sydney, and Auditor Training Global were added to CILT-Australia’s Professional Development Directory. (www.ciltapd.com.au) As well the re -certification of RMIT University’s Bachelor and Masters of Logistics and Supply Chain Management were recertified and scored very highly against the International Key Knowledge Area Criteria, which is effectively CILT-International Body of Knowledge course benchmarks. CILT-Australia was also invited to be part of a large Austroads ‘Suicide in Road Transport’ study. We assembled a specialist safety group to address one of the themes in this project that has already cast a wide net over a little analysed safety topic that affects us all. Several of our fellows and State committee members also gave guest lectures for several universities including the University of Tasmania, Edith Cowan, LaTrobe and RMIT Universities. Members of our national council also contributed to course advisory committees at both the TAFE and University levels. Thanks to members of our Education and PD Committee who were called on individually throughout the year for their expertise and advice on various occasions. CILT-Australia looks forward to completing the development of some two dozen micro credentials over the coming year as well as being involved in further nationally significant transport research projects. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 25

Hunter Section Report

Mark Apthorpe Chair Hunter Section

The Hunter Section had held five events beginning July 2019 – March 2020 which had been well supported by our Hunter Members. However, since COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns beginning March 2020 and with the restrictions on public gatherings, it has perhaps been the worst year in living memory of the Hunter section as a result of the pandemic. The Hunter committee had planned out another strong year of 7 events with guest speaker dinners and site visits but unfortunately was only able to hold the one event in March. The dinner function in March had the topic “What Climate Change Adaptation Looks Like in the Logistics and Transport Industries”. There was a very good presentation from Shaun Deverson, a climate change and sustainability strategist from Lighthouse Futures. Following the presentation there was excellent round-table discussion from all attendees. Unfortunately, the timing was just at the start of Covid-19 concerns and so it was a below usual attendance. In any case, those that attended reported that it was a very stimulating and enjoyable function. Due to restrictions on gatherings and a general reluctance to engage there were no further activities in 2020. The Hunter committee is now working on a 2021 plan but it is difficult to firm anything up until there is a clearer picture of what the new Covid-19 restrictions are going forward.

NSW SECTION

Dorothy Koukari CHAIR NSW

CILTA NSW 2019/2020 Review

Members of the NSW Section were invited to participate in events that were held locally and globally. The feedback from members that chose to participate in these events was very positive and members asked for more online events to be held. To that end, an enthusiastic committee member established an ad hoc ‘lunchtime legends’ series that kicked off with Nicholas Angelos (Director, Freight Network Design – Transport for NSW), who spoke about the strategic need for the Botany Rail Duplication and Cabramatta Loop projects, from a Transport for NSW perspective, and how their successful delivery will help to greatly increase the role that rail plays in transporting containers to/from Port Botany. More ‘lunchtime legend’ events are being planned for 2021.

Queensland Section Report

Victor Gado Chair Queensland Section

CILTA Queensland 2019/2020 Review After a few dormant years in February 2020 we established a new committee for the intended purpose in reinvigorating the Queensland Section. March 2020 – COVID 19 hit! The resultant impact on the committee was significant, as has been the case for most of business, with many of us facing job losses along with isolation. This brought many new challenges to all CILT Queensland members and including us the committee. The committee are member volunteers, who have the passion in maintaining a professional logistics industry within Australia and Internationally. With that said, we look forward to a brighter 2021, where health, work platforms continue to improve. We are seeking ideas from members about what you would like to see occur, especially now we can start the socialization of gatherings once again. I would like to thank the 2020 committee members for the passion, enthusiasm, teamwork, which occurred. Unfortunately, some committees have now retired due to personal work life matters. We conducted a new ZOOM meeting, titled “Coffee with the Chair” online meet and greet, our aim is to continue this for the short term, with the hope that face to face events can be re-established during 2021. We look forward to embracing member ideas, to help and assist the ongoing journey in the re-establishment of a once again vibrant CILT Queensland chapter. If you would like to be part of the team, please let Karyn Welsh CILTA National CEO know of your interest. May I wish all members and your families a wonderful, upcoming Christmas break, let us all stay safe and healthy over this period. Steve Campbell and David Wilson

CILTA VIC 2019/2020 Review 2020 began strongly for the Victorian Section of CILTA. David Coleman amassed a brilliant event that was fully stocked with top talent from across numerous areas of Supply Chain expertise. Even more notable was the fact that the event was held in the regional hub of Wodonga, with many speakers and guests making the effort to travel from various capital cities to attend. Not long after Wodonga, like everyone, we were forced to an online only presence. We quickly discovered this arena to be Dr David Wilson’s natural habitat. David’s outward confidence in online settings resulted in a seamless changeover, even for those who had previously approached technology with trepidation. Naturally, the first order of business was to vote as a Committee to outlaw the use of all the COVID buzzwords – which unanimously passed! 2020 provided an opportunity to host a wide variety of informative and relevant webinars. X-Act Solutions webinar in early October was a personal highlight, following up from their presentation at Wodonga earlier in the year. On that note, we were fortunate enough to be heavily supported this year by CILTA members, sponsors, other state chapters and CILTA CEO Karyn Welsh. This year was also an opportune moment to pool our resources with International CILT chapters. The level of global engagement throughout CILT this year was amazing and will surely continue to provide benefits long into the future. Even with everything going on throughout this year, CILTA Victoria was still able to reach a wide audience and, encouragingly, we saw really strong interaction from our student members. CILTA Victoria has some really exciting months ahead to continue building on strategic alliances cultivated during 2020.

WA SECTION

Stephen Goodlet WA Chair

CILTA WA 2019/2020 Review The memories of 2020 will continue to New Year’s Eve 2021 as 2020 will go down as the year most of us would like to forget. For those of us in the transport and logistics and associated with the supply chain it was a year of industry recognition. For the first time it dawned on the general public that things don’t appear by magic in the stores. There are no such things as fairies who wave wands, Presto! stuff appears, even the evening news mentioned supply chains. In 2020 Western Australian’s were reminded of our interconnectedness with the rest of the world. As we started to contemplate lock down, home offices were created, suddenly Computers, Monitors, keyboards and even computer mouses were in short supply. Fridges and freezers were sold out in retail shops across Perth. Who can forget the toilet paper shortage? The demise of passenger travel has not only impacted the tourist industry, but some sectors of our agricultural exports are doing it tough as airlines who filled up aircraft with low load density agricultural products no longer can deliver their products to overseas markets. Yet in the middle of all this turmoil and stress the Australian supply chain worked and it worked extremely well. Ships still sailed, trucks and trains still rolled, customer’s demands were met despite the changing and often uncertain regulatory environments the industry was forced to work in. For the CILTA (WA Branch) 2019/2020 saw the curtailing of our activities. Most disappointingly was the postponement of the 2020 International transport and logistics conference that was scheduled to be held here in Perth last weekend. At this stage it is planned for October 2022; still to be held here in Perth. Despite the interruptions and distractions there has been 4 events this year: Fremantle Port Tour Visit to the RCT Autonomous Equipment testing facility Phil Hardy and Graham Wills on behalf of CILTA (WA Branch) gave a presentation Curtin University on Covid – 19’s Supply Chain Impact Today’s WA AGM While the WA branch activities were brought to a grinding halt the national office of CILT Australia, continued to meet the aim to provide leadership in research, policy and professional development and support continuous improvement in the Transport and Logistics Industry and responded to the challenge of COVID - 19 by sourcing international webinars and increase the number of online courses available to members. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 30

I would like to thank Kim Hassall who was National Chair and Karyn Welsh CEO of CILT Australia for their support in my time as the Western Australian chair. Both of these people who were only a phone call away were willing to provide their insights, perspectives and experience born advice. I have come to value and I have learnt to disregard their input to my own peril. As the two national leaders in CILTA I found them to be always supportive of the Western Australian Branch and the efforts made by the Western Australian Committee. I would like to take this time to thank the CILTA branch committee in Western Australia for their commitment and perseverance during the last 12 months: ● Flori Mihai MILT

WOMEN IN LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT (WiLAT) SECTION REPORT

Peta Irving Women in Logistics and Transport National Convenor

WiLAT Report 2019/20 Twenty-twenty has been an exciting year for WiLAT AU, besides Covid19 changing the way we communicate WiLAT AU has established a committee, managed to be involved with several events both nationally and globally and had a change of convenor. WiLAT AU had its inaugural committee meeting on 1st September 2020 and welcomed Catherine Lou, Helen Stehbens, Flori Mihai, Vivian Chen, Gordana Arnaut, Vera Zhang, Yvonne Chen and Peta Irving as the first committee members. The second committee meeting welcomed - Janine (Meg) Tamayo who is a representative from WiLAT Philippines and will be a member of the WiLAT committee until the CILT Philippines organization is established. It is exciting to have a committee representing CILTA women and being able to promote and educate CILT members in the work women can and do in the transport and logistics industry. We are particularly excited to mentor the younger members of WiLAT AU. A number of events were conducted nationally and globally of which WiLAT AU participated. included: ● 14 September 2020 – WiLAT China conference ● 10 September 2020 – How to be your authentic self in a male dominated industry ● 20 May 2020 - How to divide your workday into 2-hour blocks ● 19 March 2020 – Towards Zero Carbon Supply Chains

National Webinar topics

A networking event was conducted with Women In Supply Chain on Thursday 27 February 2020 before restrictions were implemented into Victoria. I would like to thank Karyn Welsh and Kim Hassall for supporting me in finally getting WiLAT AU to move forward. Now that a great committee is in place and a fabulous new convenor in Dr Catherine Lou, WiLAT AU is ready to tell the amazing stories of women in the transport and logistics industry and provide a platform for all CILTA members to promote and provide opportunities to women of CILTA.

PHILIPPINES SECTION

Dr Marjorie Rola, National Chair Philippines September 10, 2020 marked the date that the Philippines Team was asked to establish a National Committee, the first step to being a CILT Branch. CILT International and Karyn Welsh, CEO of CILT Australia made the announcement at the Philippines Project meeting. From that moment, the Philippines Team began to establish their Committee as a Section of Australia and as they moved towards their independence as a CILT Branch led by Dr. Marjorie Rola as the new National Chair. Dr Marjorie Rola is supported by her team consisting of Brian Artates as Secretariat / Governance & Finance, Janine Meg Tamayo as the WILAT Philippines Chair, Event Management & Finance Support and Paula Marie Gallian as the part time Office Manager and Administrative Support. On the 25th September Dra. Rola was given a warm welcome at the Australian National Council meeting and on the 1st of October at the Far East Asia Regional Meeting. As is the case for all new branches, it did not have an easy beginning for the Philippines. There were challenges along the way, but this hasn’t stopped the team in pursuing the promotion of CILT in PH. CILT Philippines held their first Webinars on the 21st July 2020 on “The Critical Role of Supply Chain Management During the Pandemic” and has established its Social Media presence via LinkedIn and Facebook. CILT Philippines currently have 344 followers on Facebook and are currently retrieving the LinkedIn account which has reached a good number of professionals in the Logistics & Supply Chain Industry. The team continually manages the PH Website by posting articles on a daily basis. But due to the changes with the website domain ownership, things have been put on hold whilst a transition into a new domain occurs. The old PH website needed to be transferred to a new server due to speed issues and issues with the previous developer. There has been a new website “cilt.org.ph” registered by CILT and became live on the 27th of October 2020. The Webinar, “The Critical Role of Supply Chain Management During the Pandemic” held on the 31st of July 2020 at 4:30pm (PST) had 58 registrations and 28 attendees to this event. The second Webinar on “Challenges of Supply Chain Intermodal Logistics in times of Pandemic”, held lon the 22nd of September 2020 at 5:00pm had 39 registrations and attendees. It was a privilege to have JPaul Hernandez, Chris John "CJ" Garcia and Capt. Rodien Paca as their guest speakers for these past webinars. They have all since become members of CILT Philippines. Currently, the Philippines has a total of 8 members and is continuously promoting and engaging with potential members to expand the reach as they establish the Philippines Team. As the saying goes: “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop” you will reach your goal. And with this in mind, the Philippines will have more webinars in the future and aspires to gain more members along the way. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 33

SECTION 3

OUR FINANCES

TREASURER’S REPORT

Doug Golden FCILT Treasurer CILTA – Treasurers Report 2019 / 2020 Included in this Annual Report are the full detailed & Audited Financials for the past year. From a Financial point of view – CILTA continues to maintain its activities for Members from a very low financial base, and with minimal funds. The Budget assumptions for 2019–20 were developed in line with the organization’s strategic overview of the core issues and focuses of the entity. A modest surplus was budgeted – and due to a number of positive factors was achieved. This was compared to the Deficit of $64,168 recorded the prior year. CILTA has benefited from the Federal Governments stimulus support packages to the extent of approximately $14,000 to June 30th, 2020. This is expected to continue. Also pleasing to note is the slight increase in both memberships and also corporate sponsorships. Continued focus on cost containment ensures any lower income is negated by cost decreases. Key continuing financial assumptions for the organization include: ● Membership base will be maintained and over the course of the year grow (Section support critical!) ● Sponsorship / Corporate support is continued at current levels ● All Section / National events will be operated at a minimum "break-even" level (again - Section support critical!) ● Current Member "Services" are maintained (e.g. Industry Updates etc.,) ● CILTA Education services - continue to break even The 2020 – 2021 Budget has been set on similar parameters – again with a projected small surplus – which is critical to the ongoing viability of CILTA, given the prior year’s deficits eroding retained surpluses. Again in 2020, early renewal (with discount) was offered – and with some 50% of current members renewing by June 30th, this has assisted cash flow at the commencement of the new financial year. There still remains very "little" margin for "error" in both CILTA Budget and consequential cash flows over the ensuing years if the current base and service to members is to be maintained. Alternate income streams (outside of Membership Fees) need to be developed to underpin CILTA financially in future years. Doug Golden Treasurer

Current Industry and Economic Climate Businesses continue to struggle in a tough economic climate. Government continues to look at cost cutting and budget savings. The Transport and Logistics industry slows as business growth slows and grows as the economy stimulates. An integral part of the Australian economy, the logistics and warehousing sector employs more than 373,000 people and is worth approximately $7.7bn nationally. CILTA will be focusing on industry opportunities:

1. Traditional operators are replacing superseded practices and investing in technologies to run a more efficient operation and requiring employees to have these specialist skills as well. 2. CILTA is there to assist operators identify their training needs. We will ensure we have the right providers to supply the right training required to address the industry specialisations such as required around a particular supply chain, customer or distribution network. 3. Move towards a more technological workplace, where those with operational experience find CILTA is increasingly valued within the Supply Chain, Transport and Logistics industry. 4. Provide courses to members that use on-board technology that will give knowledge on improving data for fleet utilisation, individual vehicle performance, transport safety and real time transparency. Those skilled with fleet scheduling, maintenance and planning will have a greater role in future. 5. With freight set to double as well as an ageing workforce and challenges of attracting young workers to the sector is critical. CILTA aims to identify more opportunities for jobs, cadetships, intern programs and graduate programs for our future leaders. Providing growth in their future for those currently in and/or about to enter the workforce. 6. On-boarding of automated technology for training and development as the demand for job applicants to have a higher level of skills increases. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Annual Report 2018/19 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia 62
