December / 2011 HP Delivers Scalability, Availability, Expertise for SAP HANA

Editor’s Letter

Dear Friends The Information Age is an 80 year wave of economic and societal change that is in its second half, where business value comes from exploitation of technology rather than from installation. In the first half of the Information Age, the primary focus was the technology itself; this is where great fortunes were made by companies like IBM and Microsoft. In this period, the majority of companies that gained competitive advantage did so by differential access to the technology from these providers — for example, by having more capital to invest in it or better skills at installing it in their businesses. In the second half of the age, as technology becomes ubiquitous, consumerized, cheaper and more equally available to all, the focus for differentiation moves to exploitation of the technology and to the information it processes. It is already noticeable that the great fortunes of the second half of the age are being made by companies like Google and Facebook, which are not traditional makers of technology. In this period, the majority of companies that enjoy competitive advantage will gain it from a differential ability to see and exploit the opportunities of new kinds of information. Four generally useful information likely to dominate competition this decade, in the way that process information and customer information did in the past 15 years: • Location information, which is now maturing in availability, will offer opportunities to better optimize the utilization of almost any movable physical asset (human or inanimate) in almost any business. • Sustainability information will be vital in advancing business models in industries that are adapting to the realities of a finite Earth meeting the demands of massive, consumerizing emerging markets. • DNA information and the rapidly falling cost of obtaining it will obviously be critical to innovation and productivity leaps in agriculture, medical care and pharmaceuticals, but it will also impact insurance and other sectors. • Social graph information will help companies “X-ray” and understand organization, team design, culture and other factors impacting knowledge worker productivity, yielding valuable insights to advance the intellectual service economy the way time and motion study did for manufacturing in the 20th century. Beyond these, context, gesture, the live state of everyday objects (Internet of Things), inherent identity (untagged, imagerecognition-based), human emotional state and even brain response to stimuli are all new types of information that are at the radar’s edge or are starting to be brought into play within businesses.

Samsung and Sony Shift to New LCD Panel Seagate Completes Acquisition Of Business Alliance Samsung’s Hard Disk Drive Business Samsung and Sony have announced that the two companies have signed agreements to transition the current business relationship with respect to LCD panels. Under the agreement, Samsung will acquire all of Sony’s shares of S-LCD Corporation (“S-LCD”), the two companies’ LCD panel manufacturing joint venture, making S-LCD a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung. In consideration for the

share transfer, cash consideration of approximately KRW 1.08 trillion will be paid to Sony by Samsung. Concurrently, the two companies have entered into a new strategic agreement for the supply and purchase of LCD panels with a goal of enhancing the competitiveness of both companies. The agreement also allows Samsung and Sony to continue cooperative engineering efforts focused on LCD panel technology. For Sony, this transaction will enable it to monetize its shares in S-LCD and aims to secure a flexible and steady supply of LCD panels from Samsung, based on market prices and without the responsibility and costs of operating a manufacturing facility. With whole ownership of S-LCD, Samsung anticipates heightened flexibility, speed and efficiency in both panel production and business operations. Established in April 2004, S-LCD has continued to deliver advanced and cost-competitive LCD panels to both of its parent companies, contributing to the expansion of the respective parties’ TV businesses, and the large-sized LCD TV market overall. However, LCD panel and TV market conditions have now changed. In order to respond to such challenging conditions and to strengthen their respective market competitiveness, the two companies have agreed to shift to a new LCD panel business alliance.

Since last couple of years, India has witnessed some inhumane act of terrorism that has raised the security concerns of the citizens in the country. Further some of the recent shocking & gruesome incidences of eve-teasing in large metros, increasing rate of theft & criminal activities etc. have triggered the panic alarm about public security. Over the years government has taken some stringent measures to enhance the security infrastructure of the country, but there is a lot more that still needs to be done. Moreover security concern today is not restricted to public domain only, as large enterprise, corporates, and even education institutes are investing in securing their premises from all kinds of possible external threats. The above scenario gives a clear indication that the demand for surveillance equipment’s is on a rise, and Surveillance has become the next growth wave globally & in India aswell. The current technology trend in Surveillance space & some of the recent market reports suggest that, IP video surveillance equipment market globally was estimated to be at over $800 million in 2010-11 & over $45 million in India alone. As per industry estimates the market is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 30.2% approximately over the next five years and is likely to be worth over $3 billion by 2015 globally. In view of the same, D-Link - the endto-end networking solutions provider for consumers and businesses, makes a strong foray in this highly competitive segment & has made extensive plans, to establish itself as a

prominent player in IP Surveillance domain. “IP video surveillance is a key business tool for ensuring smooth operations, general security, preventing loss & controls mischievous activity. It is steadily emerging as one of the most compelling investment areas, creating a whole new market for networking resellers and integrators. However at present a very small number of the Networking partners in India are focused on surveillance segment. This can be attributed to various reasons like lack of expertise and know how on surveillance solutions design, implementations and other technical knowledge etc. Therefore, there is enormous opportunity for all networking partner’s aswell as vendors that is still to be explored, and in-turn add to their revenues & at the same time be part of the new age technology growth” said Mr. Tushar Sighat, CEO – D-Link (India) Limited. While huge investment is being made for deployment of effective surveillance system, it is also interesting to see that IP Surveillance is quickly gaining significant ground over conventional analog closed circuit television security camera, for reasons of both performance and costbenefits. So in addition to the security concern it is also the simplification of market in terms of technology adaption compared to what it was few years back that has resulted in increased adoption of Surveillance in India. Commenting on the company strategy Mr. Sanjay Sehgal, AVP – Enterprise Business said “Channel partners are already providing varied networking solutions to their customers like routing, switching, cabling etc. So for them it is just about taking that extra step & start offering IP surveillance solution to the same customer. While we will work with our existing partner base, we are also exploring tie-ups with partners and System Integrators for exclusive business partnerships. D-Link will extend its support to these partners in terms of adequate training to help them understand various aspects of Surveillance solution selling and other assistance needed from time to time. Our plan is to garner 40% of the market share in next couple of years & position D-Link amongst top three Surveillance brands in the country”. In order to concentrate on this special business segment, D-Link has formed a dedicated sales & solution support team offering customized IP surveillance solution as per the customer requirement. D-Link is currently focusing on verticals like Government, Education, Retail, Travel, Manufacturing & is also working on large scale projects.

Whether it’s listening to music, watching videos or movies online or mixing sound files, a high-quality monitor may be the heart of any media you consume, but the speakers are the lungs. Therefore, purchasing the best computer speakers possible is of paramount importance to achieving the highest quality multimedia experience possible. We have all possible solutions in multimedia speakers under Zebronics from 2.0 to 5.1 speakers. We have speakers in all segments. New models in 5.1 with touch and display are going to be launched shortly. We are concentrating in all the multimedia speakers and giving consumers and channel complete solution in this product range. It is a very important product range for us and surely a product range to watch out from Zebronics.

Rajesh Doshi

Director-Purchase & Marketing Top Notch Infotronix

What is the current scenario of multimedia speaker market in India and where is your brand expected technologies in the next five years? Speakers are not as fast evolving technology wise as other positioned in this market? Zebronics has come a long way in multimedia computer speakers. In the last one year many new models have been launched in the market and they have been well received by the channel and consumers. We have also received many awards from media for our fantastic range of speakers. Models such as Hero, Hero+, ZEB-SW3200RUCF, ZEB-SW3400RUCF, ZEB-SW8000RUCF are very popular. The recently launched battery powered speakers Nitro and Zebstation lite are very popular in the market. The Indian market is very fast evolving, many new technologies and changes are coming in this product category and we are fully prepared with competent products. To stay competitive you have to keep updating the product range and its one of the core strengths of Zebronics. We keep our range updated and keep launching new products to keep the products fresh and superior to the competition.

peripherals. The most recent technology shift is in term or source or input for the speakers. Computer is no longer solo source where a speaker can be connected. Now there is multiple source of music such as mp3 players or mobile phone which is active sources. Then there are passive sources like Memory card or pen drives. We have updated our speaker range for these capabilities. We have also added FM radio in many models. Portable speaker are very fast evolving and many new technology will be introduced in this segment as in coming years. Small speaker with virtual surround sound are also in great demand and will be very popular. Then battery powered speakers for people on the move.

peripheral products. We have been in the peripheral market for past 14 years; we understand the market very well. We try to give the channel complete solution and better profits, at the same time superior products to the consumers with value for money pricing. We also try to keep the products updated regularly and give more options to consumers. Also for channel we come up with attractive schemes regularly. Another part of business we are working really hard is after sales, we have more than 60 service centers across India now and have one year warranty on the complete speaker range, to make owning Zebronics products a much better experience.

We have launched multimedia players with HDMI capabilities in this segment. The single unit home theater system is very expensive as compared to multimedia speakers and still with them you will need the speakers. Zebronics speakers can be connected to single cable with the source, but other satellites have to be connected to the main unit. This problem also arises in single unit home theater systems. Our speakers come with built-in amplifiers that enable users to easily connect the speakers to the source. As the market matures we will definitely launch models with these features and connectivity options. The Indian market is very biased towards loud sound and people like to listen to their music at full volume, we are concentrating on making speakers as loud as possible with great quality sound “The sound monsters”. l

Today the consumer and market trends have shifted towards portable media players and dedicated digital home theatre systems, which There is cutthroat competition in the speaker offer an easy and simple single cable HDMI market, how do look at this competition. When on one would have believed that it is possible to design a product on a computer screen and then be able to hold and test the actual part less than an hour later, Objet is here to show you how and why you should do that. Objet’s technology is all about speed and realism. What used to take days and weeks to prepare now takes minutes. 3D printing technology puts an immediate end to the manual prototyping bottleneck by providing a rapid and automatic means of fashioning unique one-of-a-kind parts. Along with speed, Objet provides the massive advantage of producing realistic representations that can be properly tested and checked for design faults early on in the design cycle. Once a design fault is identified in the model, designers and engineers can simply tweak the design on the CAD program and print again. Within an hour the fault is no more.

COMPUTING strategy

New Year, New Office, No PC’s

As the New Year quickly approaches, businesses are taking stock of their IT assets and wondering, is it time to upgrade those computers that still use an obsolete version of Windows? Is it time to replace all those nasty keyboards filled with dust and coffee stains and monitors that are way too big for the desk? Setting up or even updating an office often means expensive computing equipment and hardware. However, while the right IT can make a difference in a business’ bottom line, often replacing aging PCs is enough to put you in perpetual sticker shock. For instance, if you run a business that requires 20 PCs – that can easily run you over $20,000. And that doesn’t even include the software license upgrades or the keyboards and monitors. But that is the price of doing business, right? Well, not necessarily. What if you could set up or upgrade your office by replacing all of your PCs, keyboards, monitors and servers, as well as installing new software and operating systems at half the cost? What if you only had to purchase one or two PCs and servers but still outfit your entire staff with their own desktop? What if you could save on energy, train new employees quickly and basically run your IT for a fraction of the cost? No, we are not talkingabout buying refurbished PCs. There is actually a technology called Desktop Virtualization Infrastructure or VDIand it is changing the PC industry as we know it.

How Does Desktop Virtualization Work?

Today IT administrators are working hard to do more with less as they become overwhelmedby the number of desktop PCs they must maintain. While there might be 50 to 100 desktop PC’s in an office, IT administrators recognize that their employees typically onlyutilize 5% of the capacity of a typical computer. Nowadays there are opportunities to better address a business owner’s needs and to deliver inexpensivePC compute power to more employees than ever, while simultaneously driving down typical ITdepartment operational expenses such as desktop PC hardware, maintenance and support costs. VDI from NComputing literally disrupts the economics by changing the typical structure from one user, one operating system to an architecture that delivers one virtual or physical host to one hundred users and one operating system. NComputing addresses this growing IT complexity and cost with simplificationand separates a desktop PC environment from a physical machine to what we call in the industry -- a client/server computing experience. That is, a user’s desktop is hosted remotely by a server or another PC and accessed via a small device that sits on an employee’sdesk. In other words, an office worker no longer has a physical PC, but instead has the access device which is connected to one server, virtualdesktop management software plus a monitor and a keyboard. The good news is thattheir computing experience would be similar to the PC experience they know – minus a lot of expensive hardware. The following graphic shows how this works:

Emerson Launches Liebert XDR Fan-less Cooling Solution

As data center managers seek out new ways to design and support higher densities in smaller spaces, Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson, a global leader in maximizing availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, has introduced the Liebert XDR in India. Liebert XDR is an innovative rear-door heat exchanger that removes heat from IT racks before it even enters the data center. Liebert XDR packs in high density servers in a small footprint thereby eliminating the need for expansion or new facilities in Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs). XDR The Liebert XDR micro-channel heat exchangers are mounted in a moveable door, which is fixed to a frame attached to the rear of the rack. It relies on server fans for hot air movement across a cooling coil, utilizing a pumped refrigerant that is 700 percent more efficient at removing heat than water. The pumped refrigerant also eliminates any danger of equipment damage from water leakage. Air exits the Liebert XDR at approximately the same temperature as the air entering the front of the rack, neutralizing the heat created by the servers. “SMB contribute up to 40% of India’s IT spends but are faced with severe space and power constraints. The Liebert XDR saves on both as there is no need for fans to move heat across the room to wall or floor-mounted cooling systems,” said Mr. BB. Kale, country manger, cooling products at Emerson Network Power in India. “This translates into energy savings up to 48 percent compared to perimeter cooling, apart from the capital cost savings from not needing to expand or build a new facility to cope with growing business needs.” Able to accommodate both new and existing racks, the Liebert XDR is designed to cool up to 20 kW of rack load, even in environments that may not be arranged in a hot aisle/cold aisle configuration. The sleek construction of the Liebert XDR allows the entire cooling unit to be less than six inches deep. The door opens more than 100 degrees, for full access to the internal servers and other equipment, and allows for side-by-side placement of racks in open and closed positions. Uniquely, the Liebert XDR includes a flexible connection of hard-piped, pumped-refrigerant lines through the rack door’s hinge pivot points, which enables it to be robust and leak-free through more than one million repeated door openings and extended periods of time with no movement. These overhead piping connections are completely static - no moving components will interfere with opening or closing the door. Pumped refrigerant from a Liebert XDP or Liebert XDC enters the fixed frame and passes through an innovative hinge to the door. Business Inbox focus

Infrastructure virtualization is a powerful trend in the industry today, but the concept of virtualization has been around for many years. Virtualization technology has been pursued by vendors as a framework to divide the resources of a computer into multiple execution environments using a variety of hardware and software abstraction techniques, resulting in the separation of the logical interface from the physical machine. Virtualization originated in the 1960s as a technique to optimize the use of very expensive and relatively scarce computing resources. With the advent of less-expensive computing technologies like Intel-based servers and the PC, the need to virtualize simply due to computing costs was mitigated. But as servers and PCs have proliferated, the need to more effectively manage and utilize these resources has risen to the forefront. Data center environments are becoming more complex and heterogeneous, resulting in higher management costs. Virtualization makes it easier to optimize IT resources by standardizing infrastructure that needs to be managed. Among the first data center assets to be targeted for virtualization were Intel-based servers. The approach was to virtualize the application layer, which allowed multiple application instances to share a single operating system (OS). This allowed IT to address the challenges of resource under-utilization, unsecured data, application management and deployment that are commonplace in today’s data centers, while providing the desktop experience that users needed to get their jobs done. The next evolution was to virtualize the server at the machine level. There are two primary approaches to this type of virtualization: hosted and hypervisor. With the hosted approach, the virtualization layer is installed as an application and relies on the host OS for device support and physical resource management. In contrast, with the hypervisor approach, the virtualization layer is installed prior to the OS and directly provides the device and resource management support. While both approaches are effective forms of machine-level virtualization, the hypervisor approach is more efficient because it directly interfaces with the hardware. Machine-level virtualization allows IT managers to increase the 28 | Consumer Infoline | December 2011

efficiency of servers by significantly increasing utilization while maintaining performance.

What are the Virtualization?

Options

for

Desktop

Desktop Deployment Alternatives Desktop virtualization offers a way to extend the benefits of virtualization – better performance, lower TCO, higher security and greater flexibility – to the full desktop. The Windows desktop is the most ubiquitous and expensive application to own and secure. Each desktop is supported by a physical PC that creates numerous challenges including data security; update and refresh cycles; power, heat and space consumption; and the management of local packaged applications like productivity suites and browsers, as well as home-grown applications. A combination of techniques can be used to virtualize a desktop. Recently, machine-level virtualization has become a viable alternative for delivering a virtual desktop experience. The virtual desktop is commonly deployed as two different models: shared and dedicated. The shared model is delivered via published desktops, while the dedicated model can be delivered via several options including virtual machines, physical machines or a combination of the two. 1. Shared Model Provides resource slicing of the server OS for multiple users, but doesn’t support user rebooting. 2. Dedicated Model Dedicated physical machines or virtual machines are natively configured with Windows XP. Each user has complete control of their PC environment. These solutions tend to be more expensive, and require configuration and management of multiple servers and images. There is no one right answer for which deployment model or desktop delivery option to choose. Each model or option lends itself to a particular type of user or work scenario. Some users are task workers who require limited customization for their desktops. There are knowledge workers that require a full Windows desktop

Business focus

Inbox with the ability to personalize and reboot as necessary. They may also require multiple Windows images on a single desktop. In some scenarios, there are “power” users who require complete control and dedicated MIPS for their desktop. Which desktop or combination of desktops is ultimately chosen depends on the specific needs of the user.

Business Challenges

Choosing the Right Desktop A primary mission of IT is to deliver applications that enable core business processes. The infrastructure built to support this mission is comprised of a myriad of components including the network, hardware, software and support personnel. As the business environment becomes more complex due to globalization and competition, IT is called upon to facilitate. Typically this involves looking for the best way to deliver larger, more complex applications to a constantly changing mix of desktops, laptops and mobile devices. Further complicating IT’s challenge are pressures from business and government regulatory agencies to secure access to sensitive customer and business information. IT managers must ask themselves, “How do I deliver secure, on-demand IT services in a highly complex and dynamic environment?” More and more frequently, the answer is virtualization. The vast majority of customers have leveraged the shared model and published desktops through Presentation Server. However, in some specific business scenarios, this level of virtualization alone is not enough. When users require more control or dedicated computing power, businesses will require other desktop delivery models and deployment solutions. A typical task worker performs non-complex and repetitive activities to get the job done. These workers have no need for desktop customization and generally are measured on the volume of work that can be completed during a given time frame. From the standpoint of the business, productivity is paramount and costs should be minimized. From the viewpoint of IT, administrators are looking to maximize the number of users per server and simplify ongoing management and application deployment. On the other hand, users want quick response times and ease of use. This environment is typical of retail stores or call centers and is optimally suited for the shared model. A knowledge worker adds value by processing existing information to create new information that can be used to define and solve problems. Knowledge workers rely heavily on desktop automation to perform their jobs. They require the ability to personalize and control their desktop with minimal limitations. Examples of this type of control include the ability to boot the OS as needed or have multiple images of the OS on a single physical desktop. Workers who require this level of personalization include remote software developers as well as administrative and backoffice workers. The best deployment for this environment is the virtual machine option of the dedicated model. This option offers businesses the intellectual property protection and user productivity that they need to get the most from these workers, which tend to be among the highest compensated in the organization. IT is looking to be in a position to respond rapidly to business requirements while providing remote support and streamlined management. Users simply want to have maximum control of their desktop. There is another type of knowledge worker who requires not only the ability to control and customize their desktop, but also maximum desktop performance. This must be achieved in an environment where physical desktop space is limited. This exact situation is found in the financial services industry with its equity and bond traders. The expectations for desktops in this

environment are 100% availability, the fastest-possible processor speeds and unlimited personalization options. Any downtime suffered by these workers is quantified in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions. The optimal desktop deployment in this situation is the physical machine option of the dedicated model. This type of deployment offers all of the benefits of the virtual option, while also providing a dedicated physical machine without the associated space and power requirements. Due to the central location of the physical devices, IT maintains the ability to rapidly respond to user requirements, which also enhances management and deployment capability.

Solving the Problem

The Selection Process When deciding how best to deliver applications to the user, there is a process that should be followed predicated on using business value to drive desktop selection and deployment. The first step is to determine what users require to get their jobs done. This includes understanding the types of devices they will use to access applications. Once the access devices are determined, the second step is selecting the optimal type of desktop. This involves choosing either shared, dedicated virtual or dedicated physical desktop options. The third step in the process is choosing the desktop delivery model: either PC-based (blade PC or desktop) or serverbased deployments. The final step involves choosing the most appropriate application delivery model. The options include locally installed applications, streamed applications and virtualized applications. This step-by-step process facilitates a business-centric, holistic view of desktop virtualization and allows the needs of the business to drive selection of the optimal desktop environment.

The Bottom Line

Desktop virtualization solutions based on the dedicated model are in the early stages, but there are existing user situations that compel businesses to re-examine their present desktop strategies and architectures. When businesses are looking for the lowest total cost of ownership and limited customization, Presentation Server is the de facto standard for delivering published desktops that increase workforce productivity and optimize TCO. Organizations looking for the sustainable business value offered by desktop virtualization should focus on targeting specific user groups that fit the profiles of the various deployment models. It is important to note that the majority of corporate users will achieve the most benefit from the application virtualization and desktop publishing capabilities of Presentation Server. l December 2011 | Consumer Infoline | 29

In the news Check Point Prevention

Revolutionizes

Bot

Check Point has announced a new Anti-Bot Software Blade that protects against bots and APTs (Advance Persistent Threats). A bot is malicious software that enables cybercriminals to take over computers and execute illegal activities – such as stealing data, gaining access to unauthorized network resources, initiating Denial of Service (DoS) attacks or distributing spam. Bots are remotely controlled, typically disguised and operate without the users’ knowledge. Check Point’s new Anti-Bot Software Blade helps customers discover bots and prevent damages by blocking communication between infected hosts and remote operators. The new solution will be integrated into every gateway to provide businesses with multi-layered bot prevention against malware threats, with high traffic performance of over 40 Gbps – ensuring all channels of business communication remain secure. Bots can create a dramatic increase in malware attacks, resulting in significant brand damage, data loss and financial costs to businesses. Botnets, such as Zeus and Mariposa, are infamous forms of malware used to execute cybercriminal activities, such as stealing banking information or executing DoS attacks. While there have been several highly publicized botnets, meost attacks are hard to identify and can proliferate silently without an organization’s k n o w l e d g e . Cybercriminals today are implementing a variety of stealthy techniques to avoid detection – often disabling PC antivirus software to hide their presence or leveraging encryption and alternative protocols to masquerade as legitimate traffic. Bots are also often used as tools in targeted attacks known as Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), such as Stuxnet and Operation Aurora. Check Point’s new Anti-Bot Software Blade is designed to stop bots in their tracks by leveraging advanced technology that helps businesses discover, remediate and prevent future threats. The solution features Check Point’s Multi-tier ThreatSpect™, a unique detection engine that analyzes traffic on every gateway, identifies millions of outbreak types and discovers bots by correlating multiple risk factors – such as botnet patterns, remote operator hide-outs and attack behaviors. When a bot is identified, customers can quickly analyze their level of risk through intuitive dashboards that highlight bots and their business implications – such as data loss or an increase in fraudulent spam distribution. Check Point’s Anti-Bot solution provides administrators with the information they need to investigate infections with extensive forensic capabilities – helping security teams enforce multi-layered protection and accelerate remediation time. In addition to Check Point’s advanced discovery technology, the Anti-Bot Software Blade revolutionizes bot prevention by providing customers with unique, multi-layered protection on every gateway by integrating with existing security protections, such as Intrusion Prevention, Antivirus & Anti-Malware and URL Filtering. For the first time in the industry, businesses benefit from a unified bot prevention solution, while delivering high traffic performance of up to 40 Gbps. Availability The Anti-Bot Software Blade will be available for purchase through the Check Point worldwide network of value-added resellers in the first quarter of 2012.

Wire-speed switching performance helps to take full advantage of existing high-performance on PCs and laptops by significantly improving the responsiveness of applications and file transfer times. The device also has two Gigabit SFP slots for uplink flexibility, allowing copper or fiber uplinks port for high speed uplinks to servers or backbones.

Comprehensive QoS

8 egress queues per port enable differentiated management of up to 8 traffic types. Traffic is prioritized according to 802.1p, DSCP, IP precedence and TCP/UDP port number, giving optimal performance to real time applications such as voice and video. Asymmetric bidirectional rate-limiting, per port or per traffic class, preserves network bandwidth and allowing maximum control of network resources.

with rapid convergence, to ensure faster recovery from failed links, enhancing overall network stability and reliability. IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol runs STP per VLAN base, providing Layer 2 load sharing on redundant links up to 8 instances. IEEE802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) increases bandwidth by automatically aggregating several physical links together as a logical trunk and providing load balancing and fault tolerance for uplink connections. IGMP snooping prevents flooding of IP multicast traffic and limits bandwidth intensive multicast traffic to only the subscribers. Switch supports Q-in-Q VLAN Tagging. This serves the purpose of expanding the VLAN space by tagging the tagged packets, thus producing a double tagged frame.

Enhanced Security

Port Security ensures access to switch ports based on MAC address. Thus limiting the total number of devices from using a switch port and protects against MAC flooding attacks. IEEE 802.1x portbased or MAC-based access control ensures all users are authorized before being granted access to the network. User authentication can be carried out using any standard RADIUS server.

Simplified Management

User friendly web interface facilitates ease of management. It also supports SNMP to be managed and controlled by SNMP network station. Supports Cable diagnostics to diagnose any cable faults (Short, pen etc.). LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) enables administrator to discover LLDP enabled devices attached to the switch ports.
