NAPLES TRILOGY New Ottieri, New Port Program-New Piazza and The City Memory* The Project is in the historic port of Napoli, in the region between the port center and Piazza del Mercato. The Architect sees city memory as an invaluable issue which is worth considering. On the other hand, she argues that city memory should also evolve and change, as anything else. Both the constructed environment (roads, buildings) and the program (city life, daily habits) should change. The Project can be considered as a trilogy: 1. A new residential proposal for Ottieri in Piazza Del Mercato which is physically and socially isolated from the city –reconsideration of the square 2. A new program proposal for the port and its structural solution in the master plan dimension. A ship that comes from anywhere around the world arrives to the hearth of the city when it comes to the Napoli Port. How can this huge potential contribute to the city life? In the port, can we create the environment for trade of culture and arts? How can amateur artists and crafts present their works in different countries? Is it possible to find an economically sound solution for this? The Project is an answer to the above. First of all, we have to mention two new concepts: Mobile chest (MC) and mobile chest carrier ships (MC ships). MC contains all the works and equipment of artists and crafts; while MC ships carry them all around the World. MC’s resemble containers in many ways (have standard sizes, protect and carry, economical) but they are more than that. They are specifically designed for different uses . They create exhibition spaces or they themselves become exhibition spaces. Within the port, an environment-campus is designed where visitors and local people meet. 3. Ideas on city memory, and a location for this. (*) City memory is not only made of the environment and buildings. Every public thing is a part of the memory. Digital technology enables us to store huge amounts of data. But in order to prevent these data from being trash, we have to take digital memory and location/environment together. “A Young Iranian took a plane ticket to Napoli. She has watched the concert, which was given by his grand grandfather years ago, through a 3D projection in the old port building. ‘ She walked till the end of the glass corridor** and looked at the port.” (**) Glass corridor is the additional structure built on the old port building.
