CIELO Celebrates 25 years - this year virtually! We knew that this milestone needed to be big and include everyone in the community. We are all a part of the MOSAIC of life experiences at the heart of CIELO. Thus, the name of this year's gala.

CIELO aims to provide our community members with the most needed services. Nuestra gente (our people) have been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lost wages, food insecurity, illness, unstable housing situations, lack of access to good medical and mental health care and trying to navigate all the changes in the school system are some of the significant challenges they have been facing. Our beloved community needs help addressing their multiple needs during this crisis.

Today, your donations will directly impact the resilient community CIELO serves and support our many educational, counseling, and advocacy services. For example, a donation of…

will provide a week of after-school snacks for students in our Homework Tutoring Club.

$50

will gift an ELL student the books they need to advance their educational journey.

$500

will provide an immigrant or refugee with six free culturally appropriate counseling sessions in their native language.

In 1996, a group of eight dedicated Latinas founded CIELO. Their purpose was to help the growing Latino population in the South Sound access mental health services.

Since then, we have significantly expanded our services.

We now provide: • Education Classes for all ages • Crime Victim Advocacy • Emergency Services • Cultural/Social Activities … in addition to our original mental health counseling!

Following our founder's motto of "for us, from us, with us," our team brings hope to immigrants and refugees in the South Puget Sound Area and beyond. We all benefit when we educate, empower, and connect people with the resources they need to create better lives for themselves and achieve their dreams.

We aim to be a hub for the community where people of all generations and life experiences come together to celebrate cultures and traditions in an atmosphere of respect and dignity.

In August 2020, amidst the pandemic, CIELO hired Julio Rios as our new Executive Director. Julio comes to us with several years’ experience leading nonprofits as the Executive Director and experience leading teams as an industrial engineer. Julio grew up in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. His work has led him east to Detroit, Michigan, and as far south as the Merida Yucatan, where he worked with community leaders and the native

indigenous communities of that area. We value his diverse skills, ranging from servant-style leadership, ability to quickly analyze complex and challenging situations, and capacity to engage others and incorporate their experiences. He thrives on connecting and inspiring his team, leading them through solutions with humility and empathy while maintaining the shared vision for the future of CIELO.
