IRA C. BENDAL San Jose del Monte National High School, City of SJDM Bulacan, 2014: What made you decide to take BS Chemistry? I took up BS Chemistry because of the influence of many American series about crime investigation like CSI and Sherlock that I’ve been watching since high school. That inspired me to dream of becoming one of the best forensic chemist here in the Philippines. What makes your study of PUP BS Chemistry course special? The people I’ve met makes my studying BS Chemistry in PUP special, they make my college life more amazing and exciting at the same time enjoyable despite of the difficulty of our course. What is your thesis all about? Why did you chose to study about it? Our thesis is about NiO synthesis via microwave-assisted combustion method. We chose this topic because of its various application in the industries like in gas sensors, electrode material and etc. Will your study have impact to the Philippine Scientific Community? Impact on General Public/Wellbeing? Our thesis will have a huge impact on general public because it’s environmental friendly and very convenient equipment were used. Do you have recommendations for students who will do their thesis? My recommendation for those students who will do their thesis is check the availability of the chemicals that they will use. How is your Internship/OJT experience (state name of company and location) ? What did you learn? My internship experience in Sugar Regulatory Administration located in North avenue, Quezon City was an enjoyable learning experience. They were very kind but at the same time strict when it comes to working in laboratory. We were assigned to their Environmental Laboratory section and there they imparted us many techniques in doing COD, BOD, TSS, Oil and Grease. What career path do you intent to take? The career path I would like to take is Forensic Chemist in PNP Crime Laboratory. This is what really inspires me to do well in my study. How is it like to be with APCid-Andres Research Group? Being with APCid-Andres Research Group great because even if there’s a problem arises in our thesis we always find a way to work on it.

Who do you think you are and will be? I am a person who’s living today in the best way I know and I could to make my dreams become a reality. I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say, “Because of you I didn’t give up”.
