Can you tell us a bit about who you are?

Hello, I’m Willem and I am a Producer and DJ from Naarm, Melbourne. I belong to the Associated Artists family, co-run Gold Haus with my partner Austin, and am a resident of the React parties by Novel.

What musical background did you have before becoming a DJ / producer?

Music has always been a huge part of my life from as long as I can remember, and I’ve played a couple of instruments since primary school, so I guess the love for it begun at a young age. I first started DJing, or trying to, after hitting the clubs when I was 18 probably a common tale. and begun to fall in love with dance music.

I remember having a pretty trashy taste at this age but after my first trip to Europe later that year and being able to experience some of the festivals and parties over there, my pallet definitely matured, and I began to take it more seriously.

What has been the key to develop your sound and style? How has this grown over the years?

I think everyone’s tastes and sound naturally change over time, and for me I feel like my sound has constantly evolved over the years I’ve been playing. I’ve listened to a lot of artists and had a lot of musical phases, but I think along your journey you fall in love with a select few artists and the sound they’re pushing, and your sound ends up being a mixture of those inspirations.
