Woman of Distinction Elayna Latsky, CHW’s current National Treasurer, has also held many other prominent titles including: Member of National Leaders Forum, National Board of Directors, Toronto Centre Board Member, Chapter President, Toronto Centre President, and fulltime mother of four boys. She now has one more role to add to her already distinguished list: CHW Woman of Distinction. Elayna was first introduced to CHW in 1997, a few years after she moved to Toronto. Invited to a Tamid Chapter meeting by some friends, Elayna had such an excellent time, that she joined the chapter and never looked back. “I had an instant connection with the members and the organization. It was such a wonderful group of ladies from all over Canada, I knew it was an organization I wanted to be a part of.” Becoming a Woman of Distinction was done to honour the end of her term as Centre President, stating, “it’s an honour to be able to help our cause of supporting children, healthcare, and women in Israel, not just as a volunteer, but financially as well.” For Elayna, it’s the personal satisfaction that makes giving to CHW such an easy decision. Knowing that her donation is going toward helping so many people at CHW’s projects is an amazing feeling. Whether the funding is for the new Marla Dan Stroke and Invasive Neuroradiology Institute, or one of our many daycare centres, she knows that countless people are benefitting – and that is something Elayna can take a lot of pride in.
“We wanted our gift to go towards the Annual Campaign because, as the Treasurer, I know that funds are needed to meet all of our commitments. All of our projects are so important, and impact so many lives, it would be too difficult to just choose one.” Elayna knows the importance of supporting Israel. Israel is the homeland for Jews across the world, hence “It’s an honour to be able to help our it is the duty of cause of supporting children, healthcare, Jews all over the globe to help and women in Israel, not just as support it. “Israel a volunteer, but financially as well.” provides so much, not only for Jews, but for the rest of the world as well. It is the only democracy in the Middle East, and provides leading edge innovation in science and technology,” says Elayna. For example, CHW’s recent commitment to the Marla Dan Stroke and Invasive Neuroradiology Institute is a program that will not only benefit the citizens of Israel: the research being conducted will benefit the entire world. Having been to Israel on three separate occasions, Elayna has seen where the problems lie, but has also experienced its sheer beauty. Her first trip, which also happened to be her honeymoon, was spent exploring the countryside as part of a fundraising bike tour. Her second trip was one she’ll never forget, because it was her first time going with CHW, as part of an AVIV Conference. This trip was Elayna’s first opportunity to really experience firsthand all that CHW does. Elayna, and a few other CHW members, visited several CHW projects following the conference.
