(Cathedral) — J. S. Bach.... Jerry Taylor, organ J. S. Bach

— Elbert Tyson........................................................Church Choir

We come to You this day to bow before You. We humbly pray Your spirit will descend. We bring no merit but the blood of Jesus. Our Lord, our God, our strength unto the end. Alleluia.

We Come Into Christ’s Presence Call to Worship..........................................................................................Randy Daniel (congregation standing) Leader: Come, let us worship our Creator and Redeemer. Congregation: We come as Christ has called us. We know

that we have all sinned and are not worthy of a place at Christ’s table. We know that Christ died for our sins that we might be called the people of God.

Leader:

Hear the good news of the Gospel, that our sins are forgiven, covered by the blood of Christ’s righteousness.

Congregation:

Let us lift up the name of Jesus. Let us bow down and pray before Him. Let our lives be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Leader:

Come, let us worship in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Pass the Blessing of Christ’s Peace Hymn No. 61:

Invocation..................................................................................................Randy Daniel

l Welcome to Howard Meier — New AV taskforce staff member Dedication of Harrison Andrew Smith.....................................................Ken Rogers Mark Andrews......Church Choir

Offertory Anthem:

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven. To His feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore His praises sing. Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King. Father-like He tends and spares us. Well our feeble frame He knows. In His hands He gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Alleluia! Widely yet His mercy flows. Angels in the heights adore Him! Ye behold Him face to face. Saints triumphant bow before Him, gathered in from every race. Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace. Amen.

At The Lord’s Table Prayers of Blessing...................................................................................Randy Daniel Communion Sermon:

............................................................Pastor Karl Haffner

Receiving of the Bread and the Wine The deacons will pass you the tray with the bread and wine (unfermented grape juice). Pass the tray to your neighbor who will then serve you before passing the tray. It is our custom to serve everyone and then be invited to eat the bread and then the wine at the same time together, symbolizing that we are one body in Christ.

Music during communion:

— Ron & Carol Harris................Choir

We Are Sent Out With a Blessing Hymn No. 64:

(congregation standing)

Benediction.....................................................................................Pastor Karl Haffner (Benevolent Fund Offering for the needy will be received at the back door)

Postlude:

J. S. Bach...............Jerry Taylor, organ

Worship Notes: Participants: Dr. Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, presents today’s communion message. Randy Daniel, an elder and financial counselor, hosts today’s worship. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, is the organist/choir director for today’s service. Harrison Andrew Smith, the son of Mark and Jacque Smith, is being dedicated to the Lord today by Ken Rogers. Sharing in the joy is big brother, Branson Smith. Pastor Ken was recently named the youth director of the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He presided over Mark and Jacque's wedding in 2001 and dedicated Branson in 2009. The Lord’s Supper: Seventh-day Adventists practice open communion, believing that it is available to anyone of any faith who professes belief in Jesus Christ and a desire to be His follower. The decision of what age a child may start receiving communion is left to the opinion of the parent. Organ music: As we gather for worship, we hear one of the “little” Prelude and Fugues of J. S. Bach. This piece is often referred to as the “Cathedral”. It is very possible that Johannes Krebs, one of Bach’s students, actually composed this piece, and Bach taught it to his other pupils. This piece is followed by a chorale prelude from Bach’s ( ) based upon the German Lutheran communion hymn, , BWV 622. At the conclusion of the service, we hear another of J. S. Bach’s pieces from the “Orgelbooklein,” (Hymn No. 510), this hymn is based upon George Neumark’s German Lutheran hymn that comes from Psalm 55:22. During the offertory, the choir will sing Mark Andrew’s setting of Henry Lytes’ hymn, , during the offertory. Mark Andrews (1875-1935) was educated at Westminster Abbey and then moved to New Jersey where he was a church musician. During the serving of the bread and wine, the choir sings a contemporary anthem, , that is possibly the best composition by Ron and Carol Harris who are US music publishers.

Next Sabbath, September 29: Prayer Service Pastor Karl Haffner will speak 9:30 a.m. & 11:45 a.m.
