We Come Into Christ’s Presence Call to Worship..........................................................................................Randy Daniel (congregation standing) Leader: Come, for now is the time to worship. People: We come, seeking to sit at the

feet of Jesus Christ, our redeemer, and

learn of Him. Leader: Come, for He has given us the Sabbath rest, and is worthy of our worship. People: We seek to know our Heavenly Father and to understand His greatness. Leader: Come and lift up your hearts, for where two or three are gathered in the Lord’s name, He has

promised to be among us. People:

We come to worship in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Pass the Blessing of Christ’s Peace Hymn No. 10:

........................................................tune:

(congregation standing)

Invocation..................................................................................................Randy Daniel Scripture Lesson:

.........................................................Elisabeth Schell

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in My name, welcomes Me. If anyone causes one of these little ones – those who believe in Me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Prayers of the People..............................................................................Ben Moushon

We Present Our Tithes and Offerings — John Purifoy.....................................Debbie Daniel, soprano

Offertory:

Teach me, Lord to be Thy servant, seek Thy will and know Thy holy ways. Give me help when my strength is waning, comfort me in times of failing. Send me peace when the darkness is spreading o’er me, that I might know You are my light. You are the source of all my hopes and joys. Forgive me, blessed Father, when my footsteps may falter. Help me rise above every tempter’s snare, may I rest always in Your care. Speed the loftiest wings of Your spirit unto my soul. And fill me with power divine, that I may be only Thine, complete and whole am I, for I am only Thine.

Doxology: from

(Hymn No. 694).......................................tune: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Worship Notes: Participants: : Kasper Haughton, our new youth and children’s pastor from Andrews University, presents today’s sermon on the value of children. Randy Daniel, an elder and financial planner, hosts today’s worship. Elisabeth Schell, a senior at Spring Valley Academy, reads today’s Scripture Lesson. Ben Moushon, our church’s youth leader and recruiter for Kettering Health Network, presents the Prayers of the People. Karin Starkey, our summer taskforce worker for children’s ministries and a senior music major at Southern Adventist University, brings the Children’s Story. Jeff Firestone, manager of “Think Printing” and organist at Fairborn Presbyterian Church, is today’s guest organist. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, is on vacation in Oregon visiting his family. As we gather for worship, Jeff Firestone plays a setting of Hymn No. 96, in an arrangement by Diane Bish, who lives in Bloomington, Indiana. was composed in 1915 by Percy Eastman Fletcher (1879–1932) who was a well known and admired British musician. (Hymn No. 10) was written originally for children and was entitled, "Come Children Join to Sing." It was written by Christian Henry Bateman who also wrote a number of other children's , which was very popular in hymns. He published them in a children's hymnal entitled, Scotland and sold more than six million copies. Over time, adults found that they enjoyed singing this hymn, and changed the title to "Come, Christians, Join to Sing." is a text and composition of John Purifoy, a Christian musician. Currently, Mr. Purifoy is a freelance composer, arranger, and producer, living in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Vicki. was written by Anna Bartlett Warner (1827–1915) and her sister Susan who started writing children’s books to help the family’s income. In 1862, William B. Bradbury, a music composer of gospel hymns, stumbled across the song's words and wrote the tune as we sing it today. He also added his own chorus: "Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so." Within months, this song raced across North America, and eventually all the continents of the world. After over a century of evolution (because other people contributed to the other verses), "Jesus Loves Me" became the number one spiritual song in the world. It has been translated into more languages than any other song. Missionaries favor its simple and easy-to-remember chorus as a means of explaining the gospel in a clear, simple way. is now retired in Maine after a distinguished career teaching organ John Weaver, composer of the at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and as organist/choirmaster at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.
