Invocation........................................................................................Pastor Elliot Smith Anthem:

— David & Nicole Mullen, Michael Ochs.....Krystal Morris, soprano

There are days when I feel the best of me is ready to begin, then there're days when I feel I'm letting go and soaring on the wind 'cause I've learned in laughter or in pain how to survive. I get on my knees, I get on my knees; there I am before the love that changes me. See I don't know how, but there's power when I'm on my knees. I can be in a crowd by myself, in almost anywhere when I feel there's a need to talk with God; He is Emmanuel. When I close my eyes no darkness there, there's only light. I get on my knees, I get on my knees; there I am before the love that changes me. See I don't know how, but there's power in the blue skies, in the midnight when I'm on my knees. I get on my knees, I get on my knees; there I am before the love that changes me. See I don't know how, but there's power when I'm on my oh, when I'm on my, when I'm on my knees.

Scripture Lesson:

..............................................................Karl Kellawan

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

Prayers of the People..........................................................................Diana Kellawan

We Present our Tithes and Offerings Jane Marshall....................................................Church Choir

Offertory:

Come, my soul, thy suit prepare. Jesus loves to answer prayer. He Himself has bid thee pray. Therefore will not say thee nay. Thou art coming to a king, large petitions with thee bring. For His grace and power are such none can ever ask too much. While I am a pilgrim here, let thy love my spirit cheer. Be my guide, my guard, my friend. Lead me to my journey’s end.

Doxology.........................................................................................Old Hundredth Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

MUSIC: As we gather for worship the Advent Ringers play Fred Gramann’s setting of “Herzliebster Jesu” (Blessed Jesus, at Thy Word) which can be found in our Hymnal No. 60. The composer, Fred Gramann is at the American Church in Paris, France, and has conducted handbell festivals in our church many times. Ubi Caritas is an ancient hymn that is usually chanted. The translated text is,

is a choral call to worship with both words and music written by former member, Elbert Tyson, in 1987. was written by David Mullen, Nicole Coleman-Mullen, Michael Ochs and was recorded by Jaci Velasquez. Today this prayer song is sung by Krystal Morris, soprano, who is a Junior at Spring Valley Academy, accompanied by Jerry Mahn. is a prayer hymn composed in 1977 by the Dallas, Texas composer, Jane Marshall, for her parents. The text is by John Newton (1725-1807) who also wrote . is a new handbell composition by William Payn who is a professor of music at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. (hymn 499) was a controversial “praise hymn” 100 years ago. The text was a poem titled, written for Joseph Scriven’s mother in Ireland. Many argued the words were sentimental and unsuited for public worship. The tune was written by Charles Converse, an American musician and Pennsylvania lawyer, and at first known best with the text,

is heard in an arrangement for organ by Robert Tall of Albert Hay Malotte’s famous setting of 1935. Malotte was an organist in Chicago before his work in WWII entertaining the troops. He not only concertized as an organist throughout Europe, but he was an avid golfer and even boxed with Jack Dempsey in Memphis, TN. He spent most of his career composing film music for Disney films.

Next week: March 27, 2010 Pastor Karl Haffner will present his third sermon in the “Twitter Texts” series reflecting on the words,
