Yang Yongliang blends ancient Chinese landscape traditions with modern digital technology. Trained in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy since childhood, he transforms the classic “shanshui” (mountain and water) style into striking digital artworks that comment on rapid urbanization. At first glance, his works appear to be traditional Chinese ink paintings. Look closer, and you’ll discover cityscapes made of countless skyscrapers, cranes, and power lines, all meticulously arranged to mimic the flow of traditional landscapes. Like water that adapts to any container, Yang’s art flows between past and present, creating a powerful dialogue about development and tradition.
