Water appears throughout his work in various forms - as rivers, pools, and abstract flowing forms - always interacting with the surrounding landscape elements. In this exhibited work, muddy rivers and paths, withered broken trees, overgrown vegetation, and abandoned waste play important roles, allowing viewers to experience anew the essence of an “oasis.”

8, 9. Water Through the Lens: Wolfgang Tillmans

鏡頭下的水: 沃爾夫岡·提爾曼斯 的攝影世界

Wolfgang Tillmans takes photographs that make us see water in new ways. Whether it’s waves crashing on a beach, raindrops on a window, or the surface of a swimming pool, his work isn’t spontaneous but carefully considered, recording moments we might normally overlook. His photos show both what water looks like and how it behaves the way it bends light, creates patterns, and moves through space. What makes his work special is how he can take something as ordinary as water and help us notice its beauty. Sometimes his photos look almost like abstract paintings, but they’re always real moments caught by his

camera. Through his work, we’re reminded to pause and really look at the water around us. The “Paper Drop” series exists between abstraction and representation. Though photographic, these works resemble abstract paintings, appearing two-dimensional yet possessing three-dimensional quality. In a grain of sand lies a world, in a flower blooms paradise - these two works invite contemplation of a single water drop, suggesting that within it might exist an entire universe, reminding us that even oceans are formed from countless drops, thus even a single drop can represent the boundless ocean, revealing extraordinary beauty.
