Make sure you cast a strong singer.

The chain gang pantomimes breaking rocks moving in different tempos. Encourage your cast to create clear, exaggerated movement through improvisation.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

The lyric "don't look'em in the eye" is very reveal¬ ing. Make sure the prisoners avoid eye contact with the guards and Javert.
