The 2017 Richard King III CHRISTUS Spohn Grand Classic was played on a gorgeous day at the beautiful Corpus Christi Country Club. After enjoying lunch, golfers hit the course as CHRISTUS Spohn Associate volunteers monitored holes and competitions such as longest drive and closest to the hole. During dinner and a brief reception, golf committee chair, Rick Rogers, announced the golf winners and thanked the players and all who helped
make this year’s tournament another success. In all, the golfers had fun, enjoyed great food and raised approximately $131,851 for CHRISTUS Spohn’s new Level II Trauma Center on the Shoreline campus. Trauma patients and their families will benefit from the efforts of our sponsors and golfers for years to come. On their behalf, and ours, we give our heartiest THANKS to everyone involved.
CHRISTUS Spohn Trauma Department members who volunteered at this year’s Grand Classic include Delia Sanchez (from left), Dana Kincaid Ensign, Sandra Falcon, Katrina Garcia, Corina Perez, Lydia Torres and Christy Bosquez.
A Note From Karen I am always surprised how fast the holidays seem to come around each year, and here they are again. As we all look forward to annual gatherings with family and friends for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, it is also a time to look back and give thanks to you and your compassionate support of our health care ministry. At the top of our list are all who lent a hand to those who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey in August. We had many Associates donate their paid time off (PTO) to Associates without enough PTO to cover lost days of work and volunteer in Rockport, Texas, to help with clean-up efforts and help distribute supplies from one special hospital that you will read about in this newsletter. It is always a wonderful feeling when I receive calls from patients praising us for the compassionate care they received during their stay at one of our hospitals. I cannot be more proud of our Associates for giving words of encouragement to those who are going through a rough time or for giving a warm smile and a hello on the ride up in the elevator. I also am thankful for CHRISTUS Spohn’s skilled physicians, specialists and nurses
who help save lives each and every day. When our 2017 Annual Report is released in Spring 2018, you will be able to see and thank everyone who donated to the Our PATH Forward Capital Campaign. For now I would like to give special thanks to our Grand Classic Golf Tournament committee, sponsors
Karen Bonner, VP for Philanthropy
and players who contributed to a great fundraising success for the new Level II Trauma Center at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline. As great as all of these blessings are to us, and how important they are to the growth and strength of our healing mission, we know without a doubt they would not be possible without the support of our friends. So this holiday season please know how important your support is to us and how very grateful we are to all of you, as are all who seek comfort within our walls. Thank you, and God bless you and your family this holiday season.

Honoring Healing Heroes
Barbara, the daughter of a grateful patient, recently shared her mother’s story of receiving care at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline. She gave praise to the CHRISTUS Spohn physicians, nurses and Associates who helped save her 88 year-old mother’s life. “Finding the correct diagnoses was a long and difficult investigation, but the doctors never gave up on my mom. They made sure to do all the tests and x-rays necessary to make sure they found the cause of my mother’s illness. These nurses and doctors were not just her caregivers, but they were her
advocates ensuring that she received the best care. “Dr. Petros was so compassionate he would even call from his home to reassure me that my mother was okay. “Melinda, Danielle and Kourtney in the Rehabilitation Department were so helpful and motivational. Every time my mom was afraid to fall, they would give her the confidence that she needed to get up and try. All of the nurses were excellent and we are very thankful for all of their patience. “It definitely took a team to get my mom better and
thanks to their medical knowledge, diligent work and persistence, my mother is now in rehab outside of her home and even walking without her walker! “For all of these reasons, please recognize the following physicians, nurses and Associates as our Healing Heroes. We also pledged a donation to the CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation as a tribute gift in their names. Please ensure that they are recognized, and let them know my mother and I are thankful for all they have done.”

The Beeville Ladies Night Out (BLNO) Committee gathered at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville to tour the facility and see the bassinets, mobile fetal heart monitors for expectant mothers and ultrasound machine that were purchased with funds raised at the Beeville Ladies Night Out event earlier this year. After the tour, the committee held a lunch meeting to discuss plans for the 2018 Beeville Ladies Night Out event that will include dinner, the Cowboy Masquerade Ball and shopping.
Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts Thanks to the Ochsner Health System, The Sister Margaret Mannion Helping Hands Committee helped distribute hundreds of items to CHRISTUS Spohn Associates who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. CHRISTUS Spohn Associates were able to receive much needed items such as baby supplies, food, pet supplies, linens, toiletries, cleaning supplies and school supplies to help in the recovery process. Seven CHRISTUS Spohn Associates who are a part of the Helping Hands Committee worked over two days to unload, unwrap and sort all of the supplies into stations at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline. On October 2, 2017, volunteers worked for hours helping Associates fill their bags with items that they needed most. One Associate even received a mini baby shower gift after all of her gifts, given by family, had been ruined by the flood in Rockport, Texas. Once all Associates had been helped, all remaining supplies were sent to other non-profit organizations such as Rainbow House and Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Thanks again to Ochsner Health System for collecting and shipping all of the goods to CHRISTUS Spohn. The Sister Margaret Mannion Helping Hands Fund offers emergency aid for CHRISTUS Spohn Associates who have an unexpected financial need or crisis. It is our obligation and ministry to take care of our Associates when in dire
circumstances; we are able to do this abundantly, with exceptional gifts from generous donors. To give a donation please visit: www.christusspohnfoundation.org.
