Description of dewatering principle The well is emptied in the same way as in a normal sludge drain, meaning the sludge will be put in the front sludge compartment (dewatering compartment). When the sludge is transferred to the dewatering compartment, water mixed with polymer is added. This causes the sludge to form a more solid form. From the dewatering compartment the sludge gets pumped on to the Masko Zoll aggregate where itâ€™s then separated from the water. Through this process the sludge becomes much more dry. It then goes from the aggregate over to the units transport compartment (rear sludge compartment). The reject water goes back into the well through the reject tank. The dewatering compartment holds 4 500 liters and the transport compartment holds 7 500 liters. This volume provides a capacity good enough to drain about 35-40 wells prior to deposition. The time required per well varies depending on the amount of sludge in the well.
Why dewater sludge in the septic well? When a septic well is emptied in the traditional way, the organisms responsible for the biological activity follows the sludge to the deposition site. In the emptied well, the biological process stops almost entirely. When the property owner opens the drain again, the biological purification is so low that large amounts of floating sludge accompany the wastewater into the infiltration system. With Rolbas dewatering system the water is returned to the well so that the self-cleaning process can be maintained at an acceptable level, while the load at the deposition site are significantly reduced.
Transport gains Transporting water is expensive. Dewatering directly at the septic well and refilling of the wellâ€™s own water reduces both weight and volume and provide many environmental benefits. When dewatering, a residue of about 10-15% of the wells content remains. This sludge is transferred to a storage space on the car for transport to the deposition. A normal sludge aggregate has a capacity of 4-5 septic wells per deposition. With Rolba MZ dewatering system, the capacity increases to approximately 35 wells before the need to deposit occurs. Therefore, by dewatering the sludge directly at the specific location, transport costs for deposition can be reduced to about one tenth compared to conventional methods.
Deposition advantages In conventional emptying of suction dredgers in sewage plants, large quantities of sludge gets supplied in a short amount of time. This makes for a “shock effect” that can affect small and medium sized sewage plants negatively. Therefore, many municipalities build receiving basins, from which the deposited sludge water is fed out slowly. Dewatering of the external sludge means that the already congested sewage plant can work with the same or with increased capacity henceforth. With the dewatered sludge there’s a possibility to process and prepare the sludge for a reunion to the natural cycle directly without tipping it into the sewage plants basins. We are on track to regaining earlier times “close to nature” advantages. This being done without sacrificing the modern demands of comfort while saving energy from transport which reduces the wear on roads, and of course also reduces the emission of exhaust fumes.
