You can lose weight and not exercise if you reduce your calories enough, but exercising is necessary to help you generate weight loss and keep your body healthy. You don't need to lift weights like a bodybuilder or run a marathon, but daily moderate exercise can help rev up your metabolism and help you burn more body fat.

If you haven't been active for awhile, start slowly and build up to more moderate exercises. Ideally, you should get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic exercise and do strength training twice a week, according to the Mayo Clinic. That is less than 3 hours of aerobic exercising per week, that's should be doable for anyone.

Walking This is a good exercise for getting moving again. Go to a park or find a path that doesn't have a lot of torn up concrete and walk for about 20 minutes everyday. That will give you 140 minutes of aerobic exercise if you go daily.

Take your dog with you and kill two birds with one stone or make it a family activity so everyone is getting exercise. It is a good way to teach your kids a healthy habit.

Swimming For people of all ages, swimming is a wonderful aerobic exercise as it utilizes nearly every muscle in your body and you are working out your heart and lungs at the same time. If you have problems with arthritis, this is one of the best exercises you can do because the buoyancy of the water helps prevent stress on your joints. Swimming is also one of the higher calorie burning exercises you can do as well.

Dancing You may not see this as an exercise, but dancing requires a lot of movement and it will burn calories, especially if it is vigorous dancing. Plus, it is fun so you won't feel like you're working out. Buy a DVD and learn some new dance moves or just turn on the music and let your body move to the rhythm, but for at least 20 minutes a day.
