Protecting Hawaii’s Native Pollinators:

An Exploration of the Mutualistic Relationship between Humans and the Nalo Meli Maoli

School: UH Manoa

Studio: Capstone Studio

Year: Spring 2024

Award Received: 2024 Hawaiʻi Chapter ASLA Merit Award in the category of: Student General Design

Lower Nuʻuanu

School: UH Manoa

Studio: Advanced Design Studio Year: Fall 2023

Studio Objective: To reimagine the urban waterfront of Lower Nuʻuanu Stream.

Ala Wai

School: UH Manoa

Studio: Urban Design Studio Year: Spring 2023

Studio Objective: Explored urban systems and the role of landscape as both infrastructure and a catalyst for resilient urban development.

We collaborated in student teams in the Waikīkī project area to create innovative concepts for future mixeduse developments. These concepts embraced dynamic urban conditions like coastal flooding while promoting ecologically sustainable and culturally appropriate adaptation solutions, which were informed by traditional Native Hawaiian biocultural land-water practices.

Kapiolani Park

School: UH Manoa

Studio: Ecology, Community + Design

Year: Fall 2022

Studio objective: Focused on understanding the historical context of Kapiʻolani Park and its relationship with the surrounding urban area. This involved introducing a new threshold or gateway while exploring how landscape interacts with the community’s needs in urban ecological design. The overall design aimed to promote an inclusive and resilient Kapiʻolani Park that incorporates species and narratives previously erased from the park in pursuit of a pastoral picturesque.
