DOWNLOW with Dunwich

You know there have been some big scores in Supercoach when a team pumps out 2,901 points and is only the third highest scoring team of that week! The big guns certainly came out to play in week one of the finals with the first 200 score of the season by the Giants Josh Kelly and a further 8 players recording 150+ including my Mate Buddy. Overall a great day to be a Giants fan with their top 3 midfielders alone scoring over 500.

FINALS SERIES—WEEK 2 SHIELD—SEMI FINALS Motley Crew v Dirty Footy Socks Tomsies v Hammers GUMBY—SEMI FINALS Kermit’s Muppets v Danks Peptides

What this week holds is anyone’s guess, but there will be two very nervous teams hoping to avoid the indignity of a straight sets exit. For the first time in Shield history (read that as Dunwich is too lazy to actually go back into the records to see if this claim is true), the top 2 teams after the Home and Away round were defeated throwing the premiership race wide open. Should be another enthralling week in the Stradbroke Shield.

QUAL & ELIM FINALS REVIEW A bit of a psters nightmare last weekend with odds on favourites Motley Crew and Tomsies ge ng rolled in their Qualifying Finals and they now face the frightening prospect of being bundled out in straight sets. Is the minor premiership curse set to con nue. Perennial Grand Finalists Blue Baggers are gone a er ge ng away to a flying start against the Socks. Safe to say this result has le Coach Frag in unchartered territory as this is his earliest season finish since he entered the League in 2011. Wolfpak are proving to be the Geelong of the Straddie Shield—the once unstoppable force are now always thereabouts without really threatening. Back to the drawing board for them. Over in Gumbyland it was goodbye to The Resistance and Franga’s Fools.

MATCH PREVIEW 1ST SEMI FINAL Motley Crew -v– Dirty Footy Socks The Minor Premiers crack at a flag has stumbled at the first hurdle with FOF’s finals experience proving too strong for Motley and his Crew. As one of the most consistent teams all year, they have earned the double chance but will be wary of the Socks who scored heavily in defeating the Blue Baggers. The only time these two teams met during the H&A was during the bye weeks, so hard to get a gauge, but the Crews form is hard to ignore. Any Premier will tell you that you need luck and both sides will be rubbing their rabbits foot this weekend as they strive for a chance to play Ax for a grand final spot

Dunwich says Crew by 55. Last time they met: Motley Crew 1,516 def Socks 1,225 (Rd 10) Form Guide: Crew 3-2 | Socks 4-1

2ND SEMI FINAL Tomsies -v– Hammers Rumour has it the Sportsbet had already paid out on a Tomsies Shield premiership so they were a little surprised to see them succumb to Ax’s axes. Not to be outdone the Hammers recorded the highest total for the week in disposing of Wolfpak so will fancy their chances on the effort.

The last time these two meet was way back in round 6 when the Tomsies gave the Hammers a good old fashion touch up, so Coach Bears would be hoping for a significant improvement from his players. Finals history shows that this isn't an impossible ask, but so was asking Kevin Barlett for a handball and we all know how often that happened.

Dunwich says Tomsies by 195. Last time they met: Tomsies 2,314 def Hammers 1,921 (rd 6) Form Guide: Tomsies 3-2 | Ax 4-1
