Japan apan is an island nation in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sunorigin", which is why Japan is sometimes referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun"

he culture of Japan has evolved greatly over the millennia, from the country's prehistoric JĹ?mon period, to its contemporary hybrid culture, which combines influences from Asia, Europe, and North America. The inhabitants of Japan experienced a long period of relative isolation from the outside world during the Tokugawa shogunate, until the arrival of "The Black Shipsâ€? and the Meiji period.

The Kimono is the most famous form of traditional Japanese clothing for women.

J

apanese Music is a major part of Japanese culture which spans from the traditional Japanese music and instruments to modern Japanese music including J-POP and Japanese Rock Music.

The Koto is one of the most refined and sophisticated of the traditional Japanese musical instruments. To the western ear the Koto would sound similar to a harp. What is equally amazing about the Koto is seeing it carried by petite Japanese woman.

Japanese Sports

ports in Japan are a significant part of Japanese culture. Both traditional sports such as sumo and martial arts, and Western imports like baseball and association football, are popular with both participants and spectators.

Sumo wrestling is considered Japan's national sport. Martial arts such as judo, karate and modern kendĹ? are also widely

practiced and enjoyed by spectators in the country. Association football has gained wide popularity since the founding of the Japan Professional Football League in 1992.
