Sight. Because, to see the world where I am is my world.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

The moment I come up with an idea.

How has your practice changed over time?

Confidence.

How have your life experiences influenced your style?

I want to know this answer. I still don’t know my aesthetic style, but I like my life experiences.

I’m influenced the most by what I see. I’m always drawing inspiration from my surroundings, from the mundane to the sublime.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

The space between conception and completion. I see beauty in the potentiality of the unformed and the unfinished.

How has your practice changed over time?

A camera is where all the magic started. As I continue to learn and grow as an artist the mediums/tools I use are diversifying. I use no less than 4 cameras when shooting and make use of whatever materials become available to me; a document scanner, a projector in the middle of the woods powered by a generator, a friend’s childhood home untouched from the 80s.

How have your life experiences influenced your style?

Nature and technology have been the driving force of my aesthetic sensibilities. I’ve always been captivated by the intuitive complexity of nature and the potential of technology

Why does this matter to you?

Sharing ideas and stories with others. At the end of the day what matters the most me is connecting with someone.

Definitely sight. Color controls my feelings and I surround my life by it. Just a little bit of a specific color within a frame can change everything.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

Definitely the shooting part. Being outside and exploring the deepest area of a city trying to find good light keeps interest peaked and things different. Stay uncomfortable.

How has your practice changed over time?

I think the ability to see the way light casts itself onto a surface or subject has completely changed since I first started shooting many years ago. Within the frame the movement and composition have become free of static angles. The camera becomes non existent when I shoot now whereas before it would be a fence between me and the subject.

How have your life experiences influenced your style?

Travel, people, and all the interactions between remind me of a movie. Within that I extract moments, and that becomes part of a sequence of images that bring me straight to that time and place. Lots of wild things have happened throughout my life which have heavily influenced every aspect of how I shoot. I want it to always feel like the image was not taken within our time or even earth.

Why does this matter to you?

The culmination of all life experience crafts you as a person in every aspect imaginable. I can only strive to be better at what I do by experiencing everything, trying it all once, if not twice, or many times over.

Sound, the sense of hearing is the most important to me.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

When my imagination and vision are created through the sense of listening. Whether it be towards a person or a thing, I question a lot in order to get a better understanding. I feel that, to truly understand something is difficult, but it is also a fascinating part of the process.

How has your practice changed over time?

Around my 20s I was very focused on the technical side of makeup. I was desperate to master the techniques and to make it my own. However, I felt I did not have enough life experiences and my mindset was still very immature. 10 years later I focused more on trying to have a better understanding of myself and others. Now, instead of just doing makeup, I see makeup as a way for me to dive deeper into something more meaningful, to understand others and myself in order to express and create my work.

How have your life experiences influenced your style?

The biggest life experience that influenced my aesthetic is when I began to dive deeper with myself and others. I started to begin with a conversation with the person I am going to do makeup on. I wanted to understand their story, their background and how I can express them the way they are. I truly feel if I cannot understand them at a level of realness, I wouldn’t be able to express the work of my makeup.

Why does this matter to you?

I have come to realization that being able to carefully organize my own thoughts is an important aspect when understanding myself, creating my work, and how to experience life. As an artist, I feel there will always be a grateful experience to whoever I come encountered with. That is why being recognized and appreciated as a makeup artist is a beautiful feeling.

All senses depend on each other, but one of my choosing may have to be sound. Sound can give you a sense of energy depending on what emotional environment you are in. Sound can take you places even with just imagination, where you can visualize colours (sight) and feel (touch) sensations. It is a mood setter for me as well, where I can really have a rhythm and/or a state of mind and can take me in different layers of depth, heightening or relaxation.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

Right after you completed a moodboard and right before I shoot it. On set, ready to execute. There is a mental pause and awe that I process while this is happening. It is amazing to see how one can create with the desired team from nothing, something beautiful; the energy in the room is exhilarating and the reason why I love this part the most.

How has your practice changed over time?

I’ve seen an enormous growth from the beginning of my image making career. I can see the skill level both on set and in post have become more meticulous and yet more relaxed as I learned more about getting everything on camera. I still however love to make images in postproduction, experimenting with light and composites. I am always learning and extremely curious.

How have your life experiences influenced your style?

Taste is what got me into the game, but I acknowledge that because of my taste I feel what I am making is’t good enough. But this is the reason I keep pushing, keep going. Life experiences can give more emotion into what I am making, the way that I feel, the colours I am attracted to in the moment, the temporal obsessions.

Why does this matter to you?

THIS whole thing matters. It’s a major part of me. It talks more than I can speak, it has more confidence than I can show, it has more meaning than what I explain. In every story I make I try to have at least one image that will resume the work behind it. I don’t always get it, but that’s the idea. It matters because it is the visual me
