The highest beauty of the new Christ the King Chapel will be the Eucharistic Presence of our Lord and His people gathered there to worship. Through the Sacred Art Project, we seek to glorify the kingship of Christ by adorning His dwelling place with sacred art that reflects His majesty. Just as the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in her humility, was crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth, the Project will crown our chapel and campus with beautiful art that represents the beauty of the unseen spiritual realities that are at the center of our educational apostolate. The Project will feature new artwork crafted to reflect the timeless traditions found in the great cathedrals of Western Europe.

Additionally, the project will

carefully restore traditional sacred art rescued from abandoned historic churches throughout the United States. The sacred art adorning our chapel will raise the hearts and minds of our academic community to Heaven and pay homage to the great artistic traditions of our Western patrimony.

Pipe Organ Kegg Pipe Organ Builders was establish in 1985 by Charles Kegg to address the needs of those institutions that desire an electric action instrument of high quality design and construction, coupled with the tonal skill and care that can only be accomplished with proper training. Mr. Kegg trained for eleven years with Schantz, Casavant, and A.R. Schopp’s Sons, and is responsible for the final voicing of many Schantz and Casavant instruments ranging in size from 4 to 132 ranks. It became clear to him that there was a need in the industry for a builder of electric action instruments that were intelligently designed to bring careful chest design, pipe scaling, and voicing to a segment of the industry that frequently neglected these important steps. The goal of the company is to continue to offer uncompromising instruments at fair and reasonable costs to those organizations that desire a truly musical instrument.

The Chapel of Our Lady will feature four restored windows made by the Tyrolese Glass Art Company of Innsbruck, Austria (pictured right). This firm was formally recognized with an honorary Papal title. Its work was first seen in America at the Centennial Exposition of 1876. Four scenes from the life of the Virgin are represented in the gorgeous color and beautiful draftsmanship that were this studio’s hallmark. Once removed from Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Chester, PA, the windows will undergo a painstaking restoration by the Beyer Studio, which will make them appear just as they did at the turn of the 20th century. Dedication inscriptions in hand-painted calligraphy fired into imported glass will remind future generations of this generous gift of art.

Partial dedication for $600,000 includes: 1. Four unique naming dedications, one on each of the four Marian windows 2. Featured name on the Chapel narthex memorial plaque

Beyer Studio Now in its 37th year, the Beyer Studio was founded by Joseph and Rita Beyer with the intention of achieving a level of quality equal to the great studios of the early 20th Century. Their specialty of relocating historic stained glass began over 25 years ago. Working with various dioceses to find new homes for surplus stained glass, the effort now known as the Sacred Window Rescue Project has relocated many hundreds of windows from Anchorage to Australia. Their work restoring windows from England, France and Germany, as well as America, has greatly influenced their new art windows. Their research into obscure historic techniques has resurrected skills that were all but lost to this artistic medium. The current renaissance in traditional Catholic art and architecture keeps the studio’s staff of 25 artists constantly busy with challenging projects.

Tr a n s e p t Wi n d o w ( S o u t h ) The south transept of the cross-shaped Christ the King Chapel will feature this beautifully restored window of the Nativity. This majestic 13-by-24-foot window was crafted by the famous F.X. Zettler Studio of Munich, Bavaria, and is an excellent example of this studio’s lush, pictorial style. The unsurpassed quality of Zettler’s work prompted Pope Pius IX to award it a gold medal in 1870, and King Ludwig II to recognize it with the title of Royal Bavarian Art Institute for Pictorial Painting on Glass in 1873. This window was originally crafted for Incarnation Church in Philadelphia in 1923. Now, after 94 years, the window will undergo a comprehensive restoration. The Beyer Studio will completely disassemble it, clean each of the many thousands of pieces of colored and hand-painted glass, and then reassemble the pieces with all new leading.  Rescuing this important work of Catholic art will guarantee its survival in the new Christ the King Chapel. This window will speak to the magnificent humility of our Savior as displayed in the deep mystery of the Incarnation.

Tr a n s e p t Wi n d o w ( N o r t h ) Turning toward the North Transept, a glorious scene of the Resurrection of Christ will match the Nativity in brilliance. The new window will be restored by the Beyer Studio to match the quality, beauty, and style of the North Transept window. The Tyrolese Art Glass Co. (TGA) was founded in 1861 and provided stained glass windows for hundreds of Catholic churches in America, employing numerous artists. TGA’s work is rightly considered part of the “Munich School” of stained glass in spite of the fact that it was located in Austria. Munich School windows are characterized by their heavy reliance on dense vitreous glass painting to convey naturalistic scenes of figures in landscapes and interiors, usually surrounded by elaborate Gothic or renaissance canopies. The transept windows, featuring the birth and resurrection of Christ, depict two great liturgical feasts in the Catholic Church: Christmas and Easter.

C l e r e s t o r y Wi n d o w s High above the nave will be 68 clerestory windows reflecting the heavenly glory of the Church Triumphant, our heavenly patrons. The windows will flood the interior with natural light, filtered through a rich palette of hand-blown glasses from Germany and France. Pale tints of glass in the traditional Gothic diamond pattern will be the backdrop for a host of Saints, each standing five feet tall and gazing down into the chapel.

The

Saints chosen by the donor will be illustrated in period costume and finely rendered in dense colors and exquisite draftsmanship. Surrounding the windows will be borders of red and blue glass and a meandering vine of ivy that climbs up the perimeter of the windows to the peak. Each painted ivy leaf and tendril will be stained with silvernitrate. This ancient technique was discovered in the 13th century and is the reason we call this medium “stained glass in English. At 1,000 degrees, the silver turns the vine glass a range of golden color from a pale lemon to a deep amber. At the foot of each window will be a large dedication, wherein each family is invited to remember a loved one or honor a family. Their dedications will be handpainted in vitreous glass paint and kiln fired to ensure permanence.
