DECEMBER 10 HUMAN RIGHT DAY SHINE-A-LIGHT-FOR RIGHTS On Saturday, December 10, International Human Rights Day, join me in the Chapter Room for a worldwide Amnesty International Write for Rights Event. I will bring all the background information, paper and envelopes. Bring your favourite pen and we’ll write letters together for an hour. Your letter writing will help bring about the release of people who have been wrongfully detained and influence world leaders to protect people whose human rights have been denied. Please give me a call to let me know you are coming. Susan MacRae 250.598-3140 *************************************** PRIMATE’S FUND Thanks for supporting the Primate’s Fund through the purchase of Christmas cards. These will be available today at the Coffee Hours. After this, the cards will be available at the Parish Office. Warm regards, Gavin Rumsey, Parish Rep, P.W.R.D.F.

MAN BITES DOG (PART IV) I began these reflections at the beginning of the month, a month in which we have been thinking and praying about stewardship - stewardship as a personal spiritual journey. The tithe was an Old Testament tax that has become the standard for giving to the church. Jesus does not say, however, that we should give 10%; he says we should give all and follow him. One of the voices that oppose stewardship and financial giving to the church is the voice that seemingly speaks for the poor. It says: “What about the poor who can’t afford to tithe?” In my experience being poor does not stop tithing. On our spiritual journey we decide, in prayer and conversation with our family, what we should give. We set a target and work to that target. When the target is reached, we set a new one. If we do not reach the target we don’t beat ourselves up but we just start again. Nobody will be measuring how we do except us. We are being asked to fill out a pledge card. Nobody will see these cards except

the envelope secretary and she is bound by confidentiality. Finance Committee and Parish Council only receive general figures, with no names attached. The information that we receive in the mail quarterly is to inform us how we are doing, and is for our eyes only. It is important, however, to pledge in order for the leadership to know what they can expect as they prepare the budget for the upcoming year. Please take time, in prayer, to think about what the mission and ministry of this cathedral has given you, the diocese and this city in which we live. Living and working in this part of the world, we have so many things for which to be thankful. Let us continue to live and serve together to make known the love of God, that we have known in Jesus Christ, a reality for others.

INVITE THE HOLY FAMILY TO YOUR PLACE FOR DINNER!

Thursdays, December 1, 8, 15, 7:30-8:30 pm

As we enter the Advent season, we want to begin a new tradition at Christ Church Cathedral. A travelling crèche will begin its journey through the households of the cathedral. The idea is that individuals and families take it in turn to host the crèche for an evening and have a short time of reflection about Christmas. This symbolizes Mary’s and Joseph’s difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus. The crèche will be sent out today and return on Christmas Eve. Please let Ruth know if you’d like to participate! rmacintosh@christchurchcathedral.bc.ca ANYONE UP FOR SOME HOCKEY?? FAMILY HOCKEY NIGHT!

DECEMBER 9TH Victoria Royals invite the Anglican Diocese of BC to join them for Family Hockey night. As this will be their last home game before Christmas, it will also be their annual Teddy Bear Toss night, collecting teddies for children in need. Tickets are just $10.
