A philosophy for my life and work is to always be open. Open to everyday inspiration whether it be a bad movie with funny lines, witty advertisments, my favorite stores, or memorable shapes in the clouds. I use these tidbits of daily life to motivate and fuel my work. My adoration is for design. Plenty of Fish

Ad Campaign for Dating Site

Description Plentyoffish.com is a dating website that matches dates with corresponding personalities based on a series of questionaires. It was the most visited dating site in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in 2010. The theme of the site is of fish, as it is used in the name. The campaign should be targeted to the males and females in the lower 20s. It must include three advertisements to be placed in popular magazines such as Cosmo, Sports Illustrated, and Instyle.

Solution The campaign for this particular site uses fish imagery to continue the theme for the site. The tagline “hook em� refers to the sport of fishing, but also acts as a metaphor for finding a great match. The vector backgrounds have an underwater feeling and can be viewed as if the fish were being pulled up to the surface of the water. The fish are simple and bold to standout from the background, which also represents standing out of the crowd.

Vincent Van Gogh Exhibit Branding and Packaing for a Van Gogh Exhibit

Description This project is meant to raise awareness of the Museum of Modern Art’s opening of a Vincent Van Gogh exhibit. It should bring awareness to the exhibit by teaming up with Sherwin Williams and having a special Van Gogh edition of their paints. A brochure is also needed to handout at the exhibit with a biography on Van Gogh’s life.

Solution Van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known artists from the 19th century. He is most known for his style of impressionism. This logo was created using only the letters in Van Gogh’s name arranged to create the shape of his face. The typeface chosen resembles a stroke of a brush, which connects with Van Gogh’s career as an artist. The brochures for this exhibit portray interesting visuals through typographic design that match Van Gogh’s impressionistic style. Van Gogh’s paintings are easily recognizable so they are used as the backgrounds in the bucket designs. Each bucket includes a different painting by Van Gogh and the name choices for the paints corresponds with the particular painting used in the background.

American mountain rentals

Campaign and Packaging for Cabin Rental Company

Description American Mountain Rentals is a cabin rental company located in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Cabins can be rented out for any occasions, but are most commonly used for vacations. The target audience for this campaign is the typical American family. They work all through the year and look forward to their vacations, so they want something for everybody in the family. The main goal for this campaign is to grab attention from each member of a family. The advertisement should include aspects of vacation with special emphasis on the outdoors surrounding the cabin, and on the cabin, itself.

Solution The advertisement’s appearance looks as though photographs were thrown together while planning for a vacation. The pieces have a rustic vibe to give an atmosphere of the outdoors and of the “old mountain wilderness”. The background for the ad is wood to go with the cabin theme and feeling of the outdoors and the typographic choices reflect this theme, as well. The message of the tagline, “The Wilderness Refined,” is saying that the viewer can be a part of the wilderness and outdoor life of Tennessee, but in a much more comfortable way of living than the early mountaineers. The trail mix is intended to be left on the beds for the cabin renters as a welcoming treat. The outdoors theme is continued onto this package design. The backpack is also left in the cabin for the renters to use for hiking trips, parks, or any other outdoor activities.

Black Forest Gummy Bears

Campaign for Gummy Bear Candy Company

Description Black Forest Gummy Bears are gummy candies that are made with real fruit juice. The target audience for this brand is much younger and still in school, so these advertisements are mainly meant to be in magazines such as Highlights, National Geographic Little Kids, and Nickelodeon Magazine.

Solution Since the audience for this brand is much younger, the overall message in the campaign is fun and playful. Simple and colorful cartoon-like characters are used to represent the gummy bears. The tagline is short and simple to get the message across easily to the viewers. It also plays as a double meaning because “The Better Gummy” explains the images of gummy bears in different situations as well as meaning the better gummy to eat. The backgrounds for each image relate to the original packaging of Black Forest Gummy Bears with its simple illustrations, but mixed with real sky and grass to place the gummies in the “real world”.

Animal Abuse Campaign

Campaign to Report Animal Abuse

Description This campaign’s purpose is to bring awareness and stop animal abuse by getting the viewers to report violent acts. This campaign is geared towards young and middle aged adults. They live in suburban areas and are pet owners who care about animals but may not always know what they can do to help out. The main benefit message is that animal abuse is cruel and inhumane, but it can be prevented.

Solution This campaign takes a different approach to capturing viewer’s emotions. While most advertisements of this kind are mainly displaying sad images of animals, this campaign is more poignant in a unique way, while still affecting viewer’s emotions. The backgrounds and typeface for the ads are worn and tattered to go along with the subject of abuse. Along with the regular print ads for magazines, the campaign includes a black and white print ad for a newspaper. This is mainly because newspapers are more popular with this particular audience.

All’s Well That Ends Well

Poster and Packaging for Theatre Arts Performance

Description All’s Well That Ends Well is a love story written by William Shakespeare. The pieces are for a play that is put on by the theatre arts department at Flagler College. The poster will be displayed around the town of St. Augustine, Florida and will go as far up as Jacksonville, Florida.

Solution These designs are a bit more abstract, fitting a more educated audience. One of the main themes throughout the play is attraction. These pieces symbolize attraction by the shape of the scientific pull of magnets, which has a circular motion to it. The rings in this poster not only represent attraction, but also the wedding ring which has a significant role in the story. The circular movement is used throughout the designs and is incorporated into the type as well.

Collide Magazine

Sustainable Design Magazine

Description Collide is a magazine specializing in all types of design. The name of the magazine is meant to represent a collision of these categories of design. The magazine places a special emphasis on sustainability in design, as more and more people are becoming environmentally friendly these days. Many of the articles and stories included in the magazine are about projects and companies that use sustainable design methods.

Solution Since most of the audience who will read the magazine are designers, the magazine is designed in a contemporary manner. The covers of each magazine include the same typeface and heading strategy of placing the names of the articles lightly in the background as a design element. The objects on the cover overlap in some areas to represent the collision of the types of design. The images shown on the covers are from different design projects that are mentioned in an article from each issue.

Leave Your Mark

Campaign for Earth’s Beauty Organic Lipgloss

Description Leave Your Mark is a campaign for a line of Earth’s Beauty Lipgloss. The lipgloss is made of 100% organic ingredients and is priced relatively low for this type of product.

Solution The campaign uses the tagline “Leave Your Mark” meaning a kiss mark for the women who use the product. The images in the ads are of different people ranging from babies to adults with kiss marks on their faces. These advertisements will be shown in high traffic areas such as bus stops, airports, and on the side of buildings. They will also be used in magazines such as Allure and Glamour, where the target audience will most likely see them.

Doxie’s Bakery

Cafe for People and Their Dogs

Description Doxie’s Bakery is a place to eat that serves both humans and their pet dogs. They serve a variety of lunch dishes as well as small snacks and treats for both. The overall atmosphere of the bakery is very clean and simple, but also cheerful and harmonious.

Solution The logo for the bakery is simple in shape and only two colors. The pieces to go along with the logo include the aprons used in the cafe as well as an outdoor window sign to attract customers. The simplicity factor is carried out in all of the pieces for a cleaner appearance. A colored stripe design was created for the background of packaging and signs to bring out a playful mood for the company.

The Bowery

Country Bar and Lounge

Description The Bowery is a laid back country bar and lounge. They serve a wide variety of beverages and small appetizers. The overall atmosphere of the bar is a laid back southern and western feel. The logo and products should match the atmosphere of the bar.

Solution The logo designed for this project includes an outline of a deer head filled in with a canvas texture. The typeface for The Bowery has a worn out country feel to it. The logo is incorporated into the design of the beer bottles and coasters, as well. The uniforms for the employees are rodeo wear to go along with the theme of the bar, and include simple deer shape patterns from the logo.

Hans Christian Andersen

Book Covers

Description Hans Christian Andersen is a well-known Danish author and poet from the 19th century. He specialized in children’s stories. One of his most popular stories is The Little Match Girl, about a young poor girl struggling during the holiday season. His story, The Shadow, is very bleak for a fairy tale. The tale suggests that evil has a strong grip over good and that good does not always win.

Solution Since the Little Match Girl is about a poor girl struggling in the winter, the illustration has a very cold and lonely feel to it. The main hope and warmth in the story was seen in the matches that the little girl struck, so the match is the main area of warmth shown in the illustration. The Shadow is a very dark story about evil triumphing over good, so the cover for this story illustrates the shadow of what should be pretty flowers. The typeface for this story is Futura, which is very modern and represents the doomed future in the story.

Type Design and 3-D Lights Display

Description This project involves the creation of a typeface and recreating that typeface in a three-dimensional view.

Solution The typeface created is called Rain because of the vertical lines used throughout it. The three-dimensional project was made by sticking red Christmas lights through white foam board so that only the lights are seen.
