SAN FRANCISCO MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING This project was the first project where we really learned how structure worked. Because of its location, California, lateral stability was important. The intent was to take ideas from the traditional San Francisco house and re-order it in a modern way. This led to circulation paths that extruded in and out of the building skin, exposing the beauty of the structure. This building contains housing, commercial, retail space, and an interior courtyard for public use.

ROCK-A-BELLY BREWERY

UP

Rock-A-Belly Brewery was a project presented to us by a local entepreneur. The project is located in downtown Manhattan, Ks on the corner of Poyntz and 4th St. A Brewpub has two functions; brewing and hospitality. The main focus is on the Brewery, therefore it is placed in the middle with all the spaces wrapping around it. The Beer Hall is placed at the corner acting as a showcase for the building. The Beer Garden is then knuckled in between the Brewery, the Beer Hall, and the existing buildings. As for the support spaces they are towards the back to accomodate for pick-up and delivery. The Beer Hall has the feel of a traditional German Beer Hall, allowing for a variety of activities. This space will lead you to the many different aspects that this building has to offer - whether its the garden, bar, restaurant area or the lounge upstairs.

The Furniture Showcase is located in the center of Copenhagen, Denmark on its first walking street, Stroget. The intent was inspired by Danish furniture designer Carlo Volf. Most of his pieces have a similar scheme; all pieces extend from a central point. With this in mind, the idea of having a central atrium with the exhibition spaces protruding into the space came about. The atrium acts as the main vertical circulation where the idea is to be able to see all the spaces as you travel up and through the atrium. The main horizontal circulation is therefore placed on the perimeter of the building.

Private Green Spaces

This redevelopment project is located in Berlin, Germany. The idea was to create a change to a more sustainable dense neighborhood by creating a space to live, work, and play. There is a variety of commercial, residential, academic, and entertainment areas for the residences of this new development. A new transportation map allows for easy accessability for this community and the rest of Berlin.

The Berlin Art Academy will provide a landmark for the new development. This island will mark the change to a better community. The academy will offer skills that no other institute in Berlin has to offer. It will enroll the most elite art students from Berlin and the surrounding countries. It will not be a typical art academy but an academy that has housing, education, entertainment, and any other needs located on the island at the apex of the urban design. The island becoms a diverse community by adding retail, cafes, shops, and kiosk to the ground level of all buildings. The idea is to provide whatever is needed to live without having to ext the island.

PAINTINGS

Before

After I was commissioned my senior year in high school to paint a mural on the side of Garden City Travel Center. The mural is 48’ long by 14’ high. The intent was to produce something that represented Kansas and Garden City. I chose this scene because it tells a lot about the history of Garden City and Kansas and also shows some of the present.

TRUCK STOP MURAL

I enjoy painting as a relaxation tool. Here are some of the paintings I have done for myself, friends, and family. All paintings are oil on canvas.
