Since 1990, when Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of TimeŽ burst on the world with its first book, The Eye of the World, readers have been anticipating the final scenes of this extraordinary saga, which has sold over forty million copies in over thirty languages. When Robert Jordan died in 2007, all feared that these concluding scenes would never be written. But working from notes and partials left by Jordan, established fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson stepped in to complete the masterwork. With The Gathering Storm (Book 12) and Towers of Midnight (Book 13) behind him,

both of which were # 1 New York Times hardcover bestsellers, Sanderson now recreates the vision that Robert Jordan left behind. Edited by Jordan’s widow, who edited all of Jordan’s books, A Memory of Light will delight, enthrall, and deeply satisfy all of Jordan’s legions of readers. The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow. Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

Reviews: Thank Light for Brandon Sanderson! I had really enjoyed the Wheel of Time series early in college so I was thrilled when I first saw this, but then I approached listening to the audio book with trepidation. The only book I ever threw into the garbage was Scarlett, a sequel to Gone With the Wind. Scarlett was not written by the original author and I had not read carefully enough to realize that Mr. Sanderson had written A Memory of Light instead of Robert Jordan. Mr. Sanderson took notes written by Mr. Jordan, filled in the gaps, and created a continuos flowing, logical book that gives an ending. The ending is perfect. There were a few too many battle scenes for us female readers but there was enough of the strategy and planning to satisfy us otherwise. I cannot think of a character that was forgotten in this final book; you get to meet old friends and you get closure. Mr. Sanderson did a phenomenal job and I would be happy to forward him my list of requests for more books from authors that are no longer with us if he is interested in trying again. I won a copy of the audio cd on goodreads.

I'm about halfway through and there are some parts I love and others that make me cringe inside. I can tell when Jordan's notes/writings are being used and when they are not. Sometimes characters will say things out loud that normally they would just think it or imply it with a look. So sometimes it feels like one of the old books and other times it feels like its being written for grade schoolers. But it is here and normally when an author dies you don't get anymore books, so I for one, am thankful for having it. It will generate some great conversations and memories throughout the years to come.
