Dr. Karen M. Beerer

Dr. Karen M. Beerer currently serves as vice president of professional development for Common Core State Standards at Discovery Education. With more than 25 years of experience in education, both as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Beerer develops and implements strategies to support Discovery Education’s school district partners in effectively integrating the Common Core State Standards into classroom instruction. Prior to Discovery Education, Dr. Beerer served as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment in the Boyertown Area School District. Dr. Beerer’s career also has included posts as supervisor of curriculum and federal programs and supervisor of staff development for Quakertown Community School District, principal of Quakertown Elementary School, and teacher at Neidig Elementary School.

Dr. Jean Dyszel

Dr. Jean Dyszel is a lifelong educator. Starting her career as an English teacher, she has served as a high school and middle school administrator, federal programs coordinator, director of human resources, and ended her public school career as an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the West Shore School District. Spending several years as a Distinguished Educator, she is currently a member of PDE’s Quality Review Team – primarily working with the Standards Aligned System (SAS). Current projects include the work associated with transitioning to PA Core Standards, Project Based Assessments (the alternative to the Keystone Exam), and the PA School Performance Profile.
