It was renamed Chowan College in 1910, admitted male students in 1931, and established itself as one of the leading junior colleges in the South in 1937. In 1992, the college returned to four-year status when it admitted a junior class. In April of 2006, then Chowan President, Dr. M. Christopher White announced the changing of the institution’s name from Chowan College to Chowan University.

Mashuda served as a member of the NCAA DII Regional Ranking Committee while on staff at Chowan as well as on several university and conference committees. He also oversaw internships and taught in the Sport Management program. Mashuda benefits from a variety of coaching and administrative experience at all three levels of the NCAA, to include NCAA DIII La Roche College (Pa.) and PSU-Behrend.
