mOIR There were several sectional leaders and three accompanists in A Cappella this past year.

T o raise funds, the A Cappella was seen at ev ery home fo o t ball game and basket ball game se lling program s. T hey also took charge of the concession stands fo r Band Fo llie s and the M.E.A. Convention. Wit h the profits fro m this, the choir was able to send the entire gro up to Cle ar Lake Camp in the fall, sponsor scholarships to Interlochen Music Camp, and pay f o r v arious other projects. One o f the main project s fo r this y ear was the building of a hom e­ coming float which won “ Most Original.”

VARSITY FOOTBALL T he 1963 Bat t le Creek Cent ral fo o t ball team bat t led its way to a 7 win-2 loss record this season. T he Bearcat s finished second in the 6-A Co nference and we re awarde d seventh and eight h place state rankings on the U P I and A P polls, respectiv ely . T his successful season cannot be credit ed to a f ew indiv iduals, but to the team as a whole, and to head coach Mr. Jack Finn, and his assistants, Mr. J ison Lo v ing, Mr. Jack Schils, and Mr. Bo b He ffe l­ finge r. It was this solid, hard-fight ing unit that bre ught about the Bearcat victories. The squad was ably led by John Whale n, t e an capt ain, and three other stand-outs, Jim Crosby, R o n Murphy , and Pe t e Clancey, who we re the fo ur play ers placed on the A l l 6-A Conference team. T om Danna called the play s at the quart erback position, while Dick Speights was the le ading pass re c e iv e r o f the year.
