INTRODUCTION ABOUT JARED Jared Owens University was founded in 2014 and is a concept derived from the empirical learning of our ancestors. The JOU education system is based on knowledge through experience, encouraging greater productivity and shared, peer to peer learning. We offer high quality training, meeting the individual needs of our students as well as developing custom courses to ensure each student is getting the most out of their learning experience. Inspired by the agora concept of the “central meeting place�, we have developed a university system that breaks the rules of studentteacher discourse by conducting group discussion classes rather than the standard traditions of one way, lecture teaching. Instead, we have evolved teaching to include open communication and student participation, whilst encapsulating that unique experience to the next level. By taking a dialectic approach we aim to give students the opportunity to learn through experiences and by restricting age limits for both staff and students, we aim to give a unique, organic experience that can be tailored to the individual. We have placed strict guidelines on entries to JOU as we want to ensure only the most determined and deserving students, who mirror our core values will attend. We appreciate the value of active learning and believe this gives our students a point of difference, above the rest. Our motivation is taken from Jar’Edo Wens, an Aboriginal deity of knowledge and power and as learning through experience is such an important part of Aboriginal culture, we have embraced their approach to higher education.

OUR BRAND IS MORE THAN JUST A BUNCH OF CIRCLES AND THE NAME OF SOME GUY. IT ENCAPSULATES OUR ESSENCE AND IS MADE UP OF VARIOUS CORE ELEMENTS THAT CREATES A RECOGNISABLE PERSONALITY THAT IS DISTINCTIVELY JARED.

LOGO CONCEPT Inspired by the agora concept as the “central meeting place”, we have developed a logo based around the idea of centralised meeting and gathering areas, and as the thumbprint symoblising the uniqueness of every individual, we developed these lines into our Jared Owens five ring logo. Together with this logo we can symbolise wholeness, unity, focus, mobility and inclusion.

MINIMUM SIZES We have two minimum sizes for our primary logo, one for screen and the other for print. Our logo is not to be used smaller than the dimensions specified below. The same rules apply to the use of the five ring logo on its own, less the wordmark.

CLEARANCES There are two rules when it comes to clearances with our logo; the inside and outside rules. The inside clearance for our wordmark must not exceed the X-height of the Jared Owens W, which perfectly lines up with the height of our five ring logo.

COLOUR PALETTE BRAND COLOURS The following brand colours should be used for all JOU applications together with our photography style (see p.52). We are very particular about our simplistic and sophisticated style and we primarily use black and white, however, when necessary to add colour, please make use of these brand colours.

SUPPORTING LOGO ELEMENTS CORRECT USAGE AGAINST BACKGROUND COLOUR: Always ensure significant contrast when using on a background colour or image. When placed on an image, a black or white clipping mask of 20-30% opacity can be applied to the image, always ensuring the contrasting logo colour is used. 0-20%

TYPEFACE SELECTION Our primary typeface is Seravek. We use Seravek for all of our headings, sub-headings and body copy. For our display headings, we use Franchise. If you find, for any reason, you cannot use Seravek, it is to be replaced with the substitute secondary typeface Helvetica Neue. Franchise, however, is a free typeface, so please do not substitute it for anything else. Please follow the guide below to ensure the correct usage of our typefaces. APPLICATIONS PUBLICATION JOURNEY Magazine is the monthly Jared Owens University publication primarily focusing on the students and their journey with JOU. The content consists of news about the university, showcasing student works, new features and upcoming events. The magazine is run by students and features a student’s work on each cover.

DL FLYER JOU DL flyers are used as advertising as well as quick information guides which are given out at the beginning of each semester with news of upcoming events and new course information. They convey our core values and provide new students with a quick reference guide of JOU and how to contact us.

APPLICATIONS ADVERTISING JOU Open Days are a huge event and are a great way of networking and spreading the word about Jared and our awesome, unique university. Below is an example of how our advertising should look when it comes to Open Day and similar events.

WEBSITE The website primary application which contains all the information you need to know about JOU. From students wanting to apply/ find out more to the log in and dashboard for both students and staff. APPLICATIONS SOCIAL MEDIA Our social media sites are a place for our students and the community to connect and engage in free flowing conversation about JOU. We will also show what we’ve been up to and we can display our tone of voice through these applications and demonstrate our core values in a more casual manner than our website and similar applications. Note: To see full Facebook application please refer to example files on disk. All social media icons used on applications must be used with a brand colour. These colours are not to be mixed in the same application. Please see examples below.

PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE Jared is determined to set himself apart from his competitors, this is told through various applications, including our photographic style. We prefer to avoid forced “happy� faces and instead, portray intriguing content through creative imagery. We love to show off how great our students are, therefore, student photos should be used where possible. However, we know this is not always appropriate, so here are some examples of the type of photos we like to use and we would like you to follow our style.
