Lean Product Development Lean product development (LPD) is a lean approach to meet the challenges of product development, aiming to reduce long development cycle times and costs. Maximizing customer value is a core principle in LPD, but the value definitions used tend to be based on logical reasoning rather than real life observations. Feedback on the decision to design a certain feature will not be received until the product is in the hands of the customer. This means that decisions are made on short-cycle experimentation, prototyping, set-based design, and emergent practice. In this semester, we have walked through the LPD progress, including customer value identifying, competitor analysis, causal mapping ,balance and point finalization, to develope a more efficient budget hair dryer.

We can see that most of the firms generally claim that their products have large wind volume and adjustable temperature. Those two features are the main competitive strategy on the market. On the other hand, we can also mark the customer values that most products on the market cannot satisfiy. Notably: wind smell, wind volume, taking-up cable, form aethetic, and noise.

Comparing the customer values and the competitor analysis, we can define the values which customers think important but not satisfied by most products on the market, including wind smell, wind volume, taking-up cable, form aethetic and noise. Our goal is to improve these parts to make our product more competitive on the market.

We dismantled and 3D modeled Proton PDR-01 to understand the mechanism of a budget hair dryer. When we developing our ideas, we can think the connection between each component and adjust them to strengthen or weaken every function. Drawing a casual mapping next step can help us visualizing the relations between them, making us thinking more clearly. Product Design

Coanda Surface Test As we have known that applying a Coanda surface to the wind outlet may suck the surrounding air to the flow and make the wind volume larger, we conducted an easy experiment to test if the idea can surely work and which kind of coanda surface we should apply.

Test Method Use a hair dryer applied with each simulated wind outlet (5 types: A-D and none) to dry a piece of tissue and calculate the time spent each time. Because only the lower half of tissue is wet, we stop timing when the color of the lower half is the same as the dry upper half.

We can see that except for D, other module are obviously faster than the original one. Notably, B and C even save up to 20% time than the original one.

Smart airflow technology The egg-shaped wind outlet is an application of Coanda effect that amplify the airflow, producing a high pressure jet of air.

How it works When airflow passes by a Coanda surface (convex surface), it will have a tendency to stay attatched to the surface and draws the surrounding air into the flow. ambient pressure

The name 六之飲 is from “The Classic of tea”. - Lu, Yu 六之飲 sells Taiwan-made tea with a traditional and comfortable environment. The target group is youth people. Providing service as Starbucks with Chinese tradition style is our goal. We would like to making consumers feel elegent in 六之飲, and feel that drinking eastern tea can also be fashional. 六 之 飲 株 式 會 社

The logo is inspired by the grill on window and seal. Trying to deliver a elegent and traditional impression.

Boundless About the Campaign and Design “框不住(Boundless)” is the topic of 2018 NCKU College of Planning and Design Month , hosted by student association of NCKU Industrial Design , Urban Planning and Architeture. The meaning we wanted to deliver is “our career won’t be limitted by our subject” ,and we also would like to make students to explore more opportunities. We planning a series of lectures, workshop and promotion. Not only wanted to provide resources to students who want to learn more by themselves, but also boosted the communication between students. We use the element of fog(霧) at the background, representing our desire to explore the unknown future and all of us have unlimited potential. The logo with a unmatched circle presents the topic “框不住(Boundless)”, easy but impressive.

The Worshipers About “The Worshipers” "祭拜人(The Worshipers)" is a magazine talking about Chinese Worshipping Culture, focus on the knowledge about incence and joss paper. Our team would like to understand the knowledge of them, and we hope to deliver the information to others. Besides, as the awakening of environmental awareness, the laws have become more serious to burning incence and joss paper about air pollution. Although these activities cause a lot of air pollution, it's too decisive to determine that burning incence and joss paper is good or not. "How to find a balance between passing down the tradition and environment" is a question we would like to make people to think.
