Welcome to ChillOut’s 21st Birthday – celebrating being Out and Proud for 21 years.

Message from Festival Director The region has really pulled all stops out for a fabulous weekend. There are many highlights and the region has really jumped on board.

ChillOut is a proudly regional festival and we do it country style, where everyone from the community pulls together to make it happen.

We are proud supporters of Daylesford SES this year, and really acknowledge the work that they all do as volunteers. Speaking of volunteers – I would like to extend an enormous thankyou to the stellar ChillOut committee and also to those people in this town who really go above and beyond. Our government sponsors play a huge role as do our corporate and community partners. This festival is a whole of community festival and it is my true pleasure to be helping to create such an epic adventure.

Merryn Tinkler DIRECTOR

Our committee Jennifer Grinter Jeandanielle Evans Lizzy Matthews

Belinda Brain President Gina Butera Vice President Kaye Bricknall Secretary Mark Mead Treasurer

LavishLunch Friday 9th . 12 noon . Bellinzona

From our volunteer committee, who plan and manage the festival, to our event volunteers from the region and beyond (even some from the big smoke), to the artists, organisations and venues who present events, this is a truly peoplepowered festival. Enjoy and party safe!

Did you know? Chillout has been proudly celebrating LGBTIQ+ community for 21 years.

Messages from Ambassadors Ambassador: Lady Hood The pulsing heart of POP music

“It’s such a great feeling driving out to ChillOut fest. The whole town comes alive and you just know you’re in for a great weekend. The music, the food and the atmosphere, with ChillOut it’s like you’re coming home to spend time with your family ... your big, gay family.” Ambassador: Dr Jonathon Welch AM Founding Artistic Director Choir of Hard Knocks, Australian of the Year, Local Hero 2008

It is a real honour to be an Ambassador for the ChillOut Festival’s 21st birthday. This beautiful regional town of Daylesford has been homeaway-from-home for me and my partner Matt for the past nine years, and I know it has also become a place of acceptance, celebration and a safe haven for the LGBTQI community as well. Congratulations to everyone who has been involved in creating and sustaining the ChillOut Festival for the past 21 years, and may you continue to flourish for many years to come!

Ticketing info All tickets are available online at chilloutfestival.com.au. We use the Australian-owned TryBooking, which adds a 30c fee to each ticket sold.

What do you do after a hard day’s night at the Chillout Festival, dancing, enjoying local wines, eating out and taking it easy (or hard) at the local Daylesford spas? Well, Chill at the Mill of course! The Amazing Mill Markets is the perfect shopping partner to your weekend – we have an incredible array of things to see and buy at our market, just 30 seconds easy drive from the centre of Daylesford.

Inside you’ll find a cornucopia of vintage, retro and contemporary fashion for all – you could find your perfect outfit to wear to the bush dance, or even perhaps the street parade! We also have tonnes of interesting collectibles, antiques, art, home décor, industrial chic – ideal for adorning your home space or perhaps a friend’s! Come out for a visit, grab yourself a coffee made with love (and a bit of cheek!) by our resident superstar barista and while away the day exploring our Amazing space. The Amazing Mill Markets wishes all of our visitors to beautiful Daylesford for the Chillout Festival a wonderful and refreshing weekend and we look forward to welcoming you to Chill at the Mill!

Music all weekend Fri from 6pm Sat CREAM from 4pm

The ChillOut Committee invites you to be a part of our 21st year celebrations with a sophisticated fine dining experience in the exquisite Edwardian Heritage dining room of the beautiful historic Bellinzona in Hepburn.

Sun from 7pm

The lunch will begin with welcome drinks and canapes served in the newly-opened wine hub, ‘Tastings’, followed by a multi course lunch designed by the Bellinzona chef. The afternoon will be filled with entertainment and of course, fabulous auction items kindly donated by local and regional businesses. This years Lavish Lunch will be raising funds for our very own local Daylesford State Emergency Services (SES) Unit. The SES is always there when you need it (literally 24/7/365) so this is a great opportunity to give something back to this essential organisation. The Daylesford SES Unit has 23 members, and is always looking for more volunteers to come on board. Can you see yourself in orange? So come along and start your 2018 ChillOut celebrations with a fun-filled afternoon of exquisite wining and dining and donating to a wonderful worthy cause.

Volunteering is a way for us to give the participants a good time and to improve their stay but also to show them what a great community we have here. The committee looks after us, makes sure we’re fed and watered, makes us feel appreciated and valued. At the end of the weekend we’re high from the experience and looking forward to next time. Volunteering for ChillOut is a highlight of our year. Ross and Vivienne Ulman (Volunteers)

Come along and join in the fun! Without volunteers there would be no ChillOut Festival! Not only do you help our community thrive but you also have so much fun! You get to dance, laugh and meet so many great people, both locals and visitors! For such a small time commitment you get to have the best days (and nights) of the year! An absolute hoot!

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR As Mayor of Hepburn Shire Council, along with our many communities, I welcome you to the 2018 ChillOut Festival. Council is proud to support the ChillOut festival, which has grown over the last 21 years. It is the largest LGBTIQ pride event in regional Australia and is an important part of the cultural fabric of our region. The event is a wonderfully colourful drawcard to our region. It will be a special event this year with marriage equality becoming a reality, a campaign that our Council supported strongly and openly. I encourage visitors from near and far to enjoy all that this vibrant region has to offer. Happy 21st birthday ChillOut. Cr John Cottrell Mayor Hepburn Shire Council

Preserving Our History As part of last year’s festival we presented an exhibition showcasing the history of ChillOut. This included stories of the evolution of the festival, the roles the committee members played in its development, and displays of news clippings and memorabilia. During the collection of material and interviews with the former committee, it became clear that ChillOut’s history was preserved only in memories, as an oral history, and in random boxes of information that individuals had the foresight to retain. We realised there was a need to formally document the evolution of ChillOut for future generations Preserving our History is an exciting new project that will do this through collecting and archiving information and stories, and developing a brand new web site with all of our history. How to get here.

By Bus

By Car Daylesford is about a 70-minute drive from Melbourne CBD and just under an hour from Melbourne Airport.

Aus wide Tours will be running buses from Federation Square, Melbourne CBD, direct to Daylesford and return. Bookings essential, call 1300 720 631

Public Transport Trains run from Melbourne to Woodend, Ballarat or Castlemaine, with limited connecting coach services to Daylesford. The weekend services are limited so we recommend you check the timetable and plan ahead. There are also trains to Ballan, which are more frequent, but you will need to get a taxi from Ballan to Daylesford (approximately a 25-minute drive).

Free Festival Shuttle Bus Your free festival shuttle bus will move you around the ChillOut events all weekend. The bus starts at the visitor information centre and stops at events and main caravan parks in the area. There will also be an additional bus on Sunday to get you from Vincent Street after the parade to Victoria Park for the Carnival and back again.

Note Monday 12 March will operate as Sunday timetable. Check www.vline.com.au/Timetables/Train-coach-timetables for detailed timetables.

OLD HEPBURN HOTEL

Castlemaine Bus Lines Pty Ltd Hepburn Shire is home to many rainbow families and members of the LGBTIQ community. We have been supporters of marriage equality for many years. In 2012, we passed a notice of motion advocating for a change to the marriage act to allow same-sex couples to marry. The rainbow flag was flown proudly in many of our townships as a sign of this support during the recent campaign and we are pleased that marriage equality is finally a reality.
