Q: What were your thoughts when King/Lewis lost their thrilling 5-setter doubles match?

fter closing out a 4-1 victory in straight sets over El Salvador in the s e m i f i n a l s , S e a n o n Wi l l i a m s along with teammate Russel Moseley sat courtside to support Barbados’ number 1 and 2 ranked players, Darian King and Haydn Lewis, when they took the court against Mexico in the Americas Group II Davis Cup finals on September 12th, 2014. The Psychology and Sociology double major celebrated jubilantly with his teammates after Lewis’ heroic 2-6, 6-3, 61, 6-3 comeback over talented Mexican teen Lucas Gomez to claim the tie. This historic victory propelled Barbados into
the Americas Group I for the first time. IBN reporters were able to have a chat with Williams after his team’s victory.
Q: How does it feel to make Tennis history for Barbados?
A: It always feels good to make History in a positive way, for me particularly in tennis. H o w e v e r, I have mixed emotions when it comes to our promotion to Group I this month. While I'm ecstatic about our victory and progression as a team, my direct involvement in the achievement was very minimal so at times I find it d i ff i c u l t t o t a k e t o o m u c h credit, but it's a step in the right
A: There was slight disappointment when Darian and Haydn lost their doubles match but as you said it was a thriller and the performances of both teams deserved a win. Unfortunately that isn't how it works… Q: Losing customary #2 player Miguel-Angel R e y e s - Va re l a was unfortunate for the Mexicans. If Haydn was unfit to play, were you prepared to handle to pressure of taking Barbados to Group I?
A: Yes, it was unfortunate for Mexico that their nominated #2 Miguel-Angel Reyes-Barely could not play and I wish him well. As a member of the team none of us are here to fill space so it was important for each of u s t o b e r e a d y. T h e r e w a s always the possibility that I may have had to play the deciding match and I was definitely ready for it. I have been doing a lot of preparation
