ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR (SMALL)
THE CHILDREN'S LIFESAVING FOUNDATION
D’Angelo founded the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation in the early 90’s with the little personal money she had at the time. She started with a group of volunteers working to refurbish an old, retired boy scout’s camp in the Santa Monica Mountains in order to bring homeless families up to a beautiful, rejuvenating, life–changing summer camp experience. Since that very first summer in 1993, Camp4All has served over 75,000 at-risk, homeless youth and their families, and three platforms of programs were developed — Living, Learning and Enriching. The Foundation deals directly with at-risk families to ensure that their lives have all of the opportunities they deserve and need. From moving ready families living in shelters into new apartments, or providing full scholarships to the teens in the Foundation’s Living Program (many of these teens are the first in their families to graduate from high school), the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation puts the families it serves first. Clothing donated is always brand new from in-kind sponsors, holidays are celebrated with the families in the Foundation’s Living Program (including Thanksgiving Days at the House of Blues, holiday parties, family birthdays, and Quincineras). The organization’s Enriching platform of programs includes many interesting annual field trips to inspirational local destinations such as LACMA, the Getty, great movies and restaurants, Heal the Bay service events and athletic events and games. The collective attitude of the Foundation is that every individual deserves an opportunity for a richer, better life. An immigrant from Italy herself, D’Angelo knows that all it takes is self-acceptance to give oneself a chance and to understand that you too are deserving of more for yourself and your children. ARIA
The organization is driven by the philosophy that what’s good for one is truly good for all, that there is more than enough to go around, and that we are entitled to have the richest, most content life ever - filled with opportunities, love, warm family connections, fulfilling work and life-changing experiences. This “Hope Effect” enables the entire family to achieve the greatness they deserve, highlighting and encouraging their value as self-sufficient, thriving, active members of their community.
