Daily News… YOKO ONO RETROSPECTIVE OPENS IN FRANKFURT The largest-ever retrospective of works of Yoko Ono, once described by her late husband John Lennon as «the most famous unknown artist in the world», opened Friday in Frankfurt’s Schirn Kunsthalle. Ono, who turns 80 next week, «is a unique, indeed perhaps even a mythical figure, not only in the art world, but in the field of music and the peace and feminist movements as well,» said the museum’s director Max Hollein. Most people probably know Ono as the wife and widow of the Beatle, John Lennon who was shot dead outside his New York apartment in 1980. And the two famously staged «Bed-Ins» in 1969 as a non-violent protest against war. But Ono, born on February 18, 1933, was an avant-garde conceptual artist in her own right long before she met Lennon and was associated with the likes of composer John Cage and the founder of the Fluxus contemporary art movement, George Maciunas. «She is familiar to practically everyone, yet only very few people are fully aware of the outstanding artistic oeuvre she has created. Yoko Ono’s 80th birthday offers us an ideal opportunity to change that,» Hollein said. The exhibition, entitled «Half-a-wind show. A retrospective», surveys around 200 objects, films, spatial installations, photographs, drawings and textual pieces from the past 60 years of Ono’s career. It pays particular attention to works from the 1960s and 1970s, featuring groundbreaking works such as the «Instructions for Paintings» first shown in 1961 and 1962 and the performance «Cut Piece» from 1964, in which the audience was invited to cut the clothes from the artist’s body with sharp scissors while she sat on the stage. A number of large-scale installations and recent works are also on display and Ono has also developed a new work -- the installation and performance «Moving Mountains» -- specifically for the Frankfurt exhibition.

International News… FLATULENT FLYERS : LET RIP A group of medical specialists has provided an answer to a dilemma that has faced flyers since the Wright brothers took to the air in 1903 -- is it okay to fart mid-flight  ? The experts’ recommendation is an emphatic yes to airline passengers -- but a warning to cockpit crews that breaking wind could distract the pilot and pose a safety risk. The study concluded that anecdotal evidence that flying increases flatulence is not hot air, finding that changes in air pressure at altitude result in the gut producing more gas.

‘BRANGELINA’ TO AUSTRALIA Hollywood superstars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may be heading to Australia if the government is successful in bringing «20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo» Down Under. Pitt, one half of the power couple dubbed «Brangelina», is being sought for the lead role of Ned Land and Sydney’s Daily Telegraph said industry sources indicated he would bring his family with him to shoot in Australia. Arts Minister Simon Crean said he was meeting with Disney executives on Friday to attempt to secure the blockbuster.

Season 2012 - 2013 of the discovery route is ongoing. This environmental awareness is SUPPORTED BY THE RECTORAT AND IS PART OF THE school program and students assessment. All 5th grade classes (5ème) at College Mireille Choisy are involved with the active participation of Anne-Lise Finot, professor of Biology. The mangrove session is essential because this habitat, a real natural buffer between land and sea, is ignored and too often destroyed. However, it is perhaps the most active area because the mangroves have a very important filtering role, thus preventing pollution from land to sea. So, in

St Barth, few remaining mangrove areas remain, especially around ponds that serve as retention basins for troubled waters. These waters are then filtered by the mangrove and finally go to the sea. Every day. The mangrove is being destroyed and deprives St Barth of a helpful treasure. Because the mangrove habitat is also impressively biodiverse! Crabs, iguanas, birds, everyone benefits from it. Finally, many fish release their spawn in shallow waters; juveniles naturally find their home in mangrove roots. Barracudas, sharks, mullet ... they are all born near the mangrove.

1) Coral is formed by polyps. This is an animal colony. Here are «staghorn».coral polyps. 2) White crab, appreciated by gourmets, also live in the mangrove.

St Jean - Centre Commercial La Savane Tél. 0590 27 68 16. Horaires : Du lundi au jeudi de 8h à 13h et de 15h à 20h. Vendredi et samedi de 8h à 20h non-stop. Dimanche de 9h à 13h et de 16h à 19h.

After Jimmy Buffet and Peter Harrison, it’s now the turn of Jim Swartz to have the “Godfather” role of the 2013 Competition. Jim Swartz has been active in venture capital for four decades. Coming from Pittsburgh, PA, this former Harvard student particularly enjoys working with start-up teams that are defining new industries. He’s also an impressive sailor. An IRC North American and East Coast

champion, he won the 2011 event with his IRC 52 Vesper and epitomizes the quality of competition that fills Les Voiles ranks. He has raced in all of the event’s previous three runnings and will return with Vespers to compete again this year with his 16-member crew that includes such recognizable names from the America’s Cup and match racing arena such as Gavin Brady, Jamie Gale, Ken Keefe, James Baxter and Ben Beer.

Focus on a new boat in the competition : Varuna

Crew party

Varuna is a KER 51, relatively new to the international race circuit, having been lauched only last April and with just Kiel Week (where it won its class) and Les Voiles de St. Tropez (third in class) as its only tests, thus far, in around-the-buoys racing. The German Jens Kellinghusen (Hamburg) is the owner. Age 64, he has been building his current sailing team since the beginning of 2010 when he campaigned a Rogers 46, also named Varuna. “This is the first time for us at Les Voiles de St. Barth,” explains Vasco Ollero, Kellinghsen’s bow man for 15 years, “We chose it because it was the best race for us between the RORC Caribbean 600 distance race and the Transpac in June. We can gain a lot by taking part and being as fast as possible.»

Twizy on « Les Voiles de Saint-Barth » Do you know Twizy ? This small all-electric car, elaborated by Renault is particular for her futurist style and original dimensions (it’s a two-seater vehicle). The car will be exposed in the Race village during the entire event.

This year again, the organizers will prepare a special evening for the crews: a good way for them to meet and share in a festive atmosphere… The date has already been fixed on wednesday10th april. By invitation, crews will be offered an evening including buffet dinner and cocktails between 6-11p on Shell Beach in Gustavia.

Inscriptions 49 boats are already registered for the 2013 edition of Les Voiles de St Barth, in the 6 class in competition : Maxi-Racing/ MaxiRacing Cruising, IRC 52, Spinnaker 1&2, Non Spinnaker, Racing multi-hull et Classic. You still have time to register to participate, by fill-in the Entry form you can find on the official website: site/us/entry-form/ As in previous years, Les Voiles de SaintBarth uses the Caribbean Sailing Association rating. Horoscope Aries : If asked for your opinion or advice, you should only offer it if you are certain you can remain objective.

Leo : Today’s new moon may rivet your attention for a few weeks on what is most important to bringing happiness.

Sagittarius : Presto, changeo. A new moon in your sign shifts attention to more personal matters for a few weeks.

Pisces : Your ability to make a profit from routine labor is enhanced, but you shouldn’t gamble with hard-earned dollars.
