The concept of “trees” is used to develop the space in this theme-based restaurant. The floor contains two different colored mosaic pavements to patchwork a tree’s reflection. The branches are designed to wind around the freight elevator, which is behind the bar table. They extend people’s vision to the ceiling

06 Who is sitting with me?

Designing a Mahjong Entertainment Center Location: No.90-1, Sankengzi, Longtan Township, Taoyuan County 325, Taiwan

Project Area : 5742 M² Site Area : 18208 M² Project Year : 2009~2010 This project aims to create a new leisure environment. Mahjong can be identified as one of the most interesting games of Chinese culture. I want to create a space which is surrounded by the nature and contains others activities including Mahjong game rooms for adults as well as children’s playground.

This project is my graduate design, It was inspired by my childhood experience. When I was young, my parent often played Mahjong in their spare time and I tagged along. The only thing I could do was sitting next to me that designing a Mahjong Entertainment Center would be great for both adults and children.

Rehabilitating the impression of public. Most of people may think that Mahjong is just a gambling game. However, Mahjong is a pure puzzle skills and competitive activities, which can enhance people's casual fun.

This is a space where contains mahjong game rooms. Adults can enjoy playing mahjong with the beautiful nature, and children also have recreational facilities such as riding the bicycle and observing the ecological environment. Both adults and children will find it interesting and fun.

1. Relieving physical fatigue and restoring physical balance.

2. To get spiritual solace, and become the resting place of heart.

In my country, Taiwan, there are 2.4 million people who play Mahjong. Proportion of the population accounted for about 10%. most of those people are playing at home, however under the closed environment, sometimes may have smoking and drinking and so on, which not only affects the child, but also is not good for people’s health. Furthermore the cleanup after playing Mahjong is also a disturbing things.

Above of all, there are so much improvements needed to be advanced such as space, behavior and function of this activity. 37
