May

Our year-round season of classical music continues from April to November 2020 with a packed programme of concerts and events. From intimate chamber music to orchestral grandeur, it’s an energetic programme with something for everyone.

The Chetham’s International Piano Series returns in Summer with two weeks of recitals and performances from leading international pianists plus Tasmin Little and Dame Evelyn Glennie. On top of that, there’s a festive programme in store for you as we look ahead to Christmas 2020. The season is a perfect reflection of everything The Stoller Hall has become in the last three years; nurturing young talent, reimagining historic music and creating intimate experiences that let you get closer to the music than any other concert hall. Dynamic composers, musicians and performers become storytellers on The Stoller Hall stage, creating unique experiences that will keep you coming back for more. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Steve Reich’s “Music for 18 Musicians” is nothing less than the Mount Everest of American Minimalism. In this one-off performance, Manchester Collective are joined by players from Chetham’s School of Music to perform this extraordinary work. Reich’s music is vibrant, lifeaffirming, and effortlessly modern - “Music for 18” is an unforgettable work to experience in concert, and a notoriously difficult piece to perform. Together with Terry Riley’s masterpiece “In C”, this programme will push its performers to the edge.

Founded in 2009, Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch comprises three of the finest international instrumentalists performing today. Their performance includes one of Dvořák’s most famous pieces - the ‘Dumky’ trio, Beethoven’s Kakadu Variations (Kakadu being the German word for Cockatoo), and Arensky’s first Piano Trio, written for renowned Russian cellist, Karl Davydov.
