Signature Events February: Valentines on Ice Local Audience | 500-1,500 people Germantown Avenue is transformed into an outdoor gallery as custom ice sculptures commissioned by local businesses line the shopping corridor, while live ice sculpting is performed for the public in an Arctic village. Valentines of every kind can take advantage of the last weekend before the holiday with shopping promotions at participating retailers, or pick up a Chestnut Hill Gift Card to use for a date night at nearby restaurants and shops. Cozy warming stations with fire pits, warm beverages, and seasonal treats make it a pleasure to explore the Avenue.

Winter and Summer: Chestnut Hill Restaurant Week From highly-rated fine dining to casual family favorites, Chestnut Hill’s restaurant scene has something for everyone, and there’s no better time to explore it than Restaurant Week. Prix-fixe menus and drink specials give diners a taste of the neighborhood’s varied dining destinations that keep them coming back for more throughout the year.


May: Home and Garden Festival Regional Audience | 25,000 people With spring in full bloom, Chestnut Hill proudly celebrates its identity as Philadelphia’s Garden District. Historic Germantown Avenue changes into an outdoor marketplace as the street and shops come alive with home and garden vendors, artists and crafters, and al fresco dining served up by the restaurants of Chestnut Hill. Live entertainment, demonstrations, games, giveaways, and children’s activities round out the festivities.

July: Petapalooza Local Audience | 2,500 people A fun-filled day for the dogs (and cats, too), Petapalooza draws pet-owners and admirers from around Northwest Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. Animal rescue organizations, pet training, grooming, photo opportunities, music, and more are featured at this annual event highlighting Chestnut Hill as a pet-friendly community.


Special Promotions Starting May 2018: First Wednesdays on The Hill Beginning in May 2018, mark your calendars for a night out on First Wednesdays in Chestnut Hill. Explore unique boutique shops along Germantown Avenue until 8:00pm, enjoy specials at popular bars and restaurants, look out for special giveaways and beverage samples along the Avenue, and enjoy live outdoor music performances. No place does hump day like the Hill!

June through September 2018: Summer on the Hill With abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, historic tree-lined streets, and al fresco dining, Chestnut Hill is the perfect destination for a summer excursion to escape the downtown heat and congestion. Summer on The Hill includes a calendar of special activities curated by the Chestnut Hill Business District, with support from the Chestnut Hill Community Association, Woodmere Art Museum, and Morris Arboretum.


September: Fall for the Arts Festival Regional Audience | 25,000 people From Woodmere Art Museum and local art galleries to historic architecture and antique shops, Chestnut Hill is alive with the arts. Fall for the Arts is an annual tradition eagerly anticipated by the more than 25,000 people who attend each year. Over 165 talented artists and crafters exhibit at this event, which also includes live music, festival foods, and children’s activities. Artists paint outdoors along the Avenue, and attendees are able to interact with them during the day and learn about their path to inspiration. Makers Village adds an extra, exciting element of craftsmanship to the Festival, celebrating both the beauty of a finished piece of art as well as the act of making it. Kids and adults are encouraged to try their hand at blacksmithing, lamp work, woodturning, glass blowing, puppetry, and silversmithing.


October: Wands and Wizards Night Regional Audience Abracadabra, wonder, and spooky sights fill the air as witches and wizards of all ages prowl the streets of Chestnut Hill in costume on Wands and Wizards Night. The afternoon features an annual Quidditch tournament, straw maze, and hayrides, while the evening brings family-friendly magical activities, Halloween entertainers, and a popular adult pub crawl through the Hill’s best bars and restaurants.

October: Halloween on the Hill Local Audience | 750 people Families flock to the Avenue for the annual Kids Halloween Parade followed by fun activities throughout Chestnut Hill. Trick or Treating takes place along the Avenue in various stores and restaurants.


November-December: Holidays on the Hill Regional Audience | 3,000-5,000 people per event Chestnut Hill is beautiful year-round, but the Avenue becomes magical during the holidays when thousands of white lights twinkle in the trees, fresh greens adorn shop windows, Victorian carolers sing, and brass quartets entertain on the Avenue. It’s no surprise that in 2017, USA Today named Chestnut Hill the Philadelphia region’s #1 holiday shopping destination. Highlights of the season include a holiday house tour, parade, concerts, workshops, and the oldest and favorite tradition of all— Wednesday evening Stag & Doe Nights.
