Health & Wellness Center

SES Healthcare at the Edges Competition Group Project:

Team Members: Laura Elizondo, Daramis Acosta & Reid Gould

414 S. WW White Rd. San Antonio, TX

The Health & Wellness Center is designed to reuse an abandoned building that is considered a brown field, that is located at the edge of the city, in a neighborhood that would benefit from a wellness clinic. The Center was designed to encourage residents of the neighborhood to interact with the site. After conducting research we concluded that residents were cutting across the vacant lot on their way home from work. We used this information to shape the facility, allowing for users to continue their known path of travel while exposing them to a healthy environment.

Cafeteria

The Redland Mixed Use building was a blank slate with exposed structural elements and emergency stairs. Program requirements were to have a minimum of 4 occupancy types. Fire exits, occupancy loads, and travel distances were all taken into account and came together as a beautiful mesh of spaces. The building brings all the essentials for the working man under one roof. A day care for parents with children, a fitness center for stress relief, a cafeteria for nutrition, and retail for those who like to shop. The space has a timeless elevator that leads up to a skylight that brings the core of the building to life. Transparency and an open feel make the building feel larger and more inviting.

.04 Location of new Master RR.

Old Layout

The personal project I selected to show is a conceptual Residential Remodel I designed for a 3 Bed 1 Bath home in the Heights, Houston. The resident stressed a dire need for a second restroom off the Master bedroom as an addition to the home, as well as a formal Dining and Living space with an open concept. By creating a short hall between the living and dining spaces, you get the feeling as if they are their own spaces while still meeting the clients desire for an open feel.

New addition to be media room.

22

Personal Work

New Layout

Personal Work Example

The existing structure allows for a new 12 ft ceiling making the new living and dining spaces feel larger and more open. The existing ceiling was at 9 ft.

Living Room/ Entry

Living Room View

Living Room/ Dining Room

23

Media Room

Kitchen/Dining

At the Kitchen/Dining entry I chose to build a furr-down. This allows the new space to have the higher ceiling while allowing the kitchen to keep its original ceiling height, as well as keep as open entry rather than adding doors. The low height partition acts as a room divider and makes the space look much cleaner than the previous counter that protruded into the space.

24

Dining Room

Personal Work Example The Restroom addition for the house is sure to add value. It is a tight space but is a hot commodity. The toilet is partioned off at one end for privacy as best as space will allow and a long narrow vanity with upper storage was key as space was limited.

BREAK 11 X 10 UP

This project I space planned for a small accounting & software consulting firm that was looking to expand. They wanted an open concept and needed a small break area, storage room, 2 offices and a conference room. The project is currently in construction adminstration and should break ground soon. The Open workstation layout allows the company to grow by providing them additional stations than they need while still utilizing all the RSF.

This is a project that has been through many space plan iterations over

the past year for a law firm that is finally in construction. Here I am showing one of the first space plans demonstrating the clients need for growth utilizing workstations and every opportunity for file storage. It was designed in 2 phases due to the client living through the renovation. After much communication and several space plan revisions, the client is finally seeing phase 2 of their new space come to life.

To the right is a small mortgage company in Cypress, TX. I was given the task of providing them with the best solution for 2 oversized workstations, open files, a large breakroom, a reception area with no receptionist, and an IT/Storage closet. I was asked to provide 3 finish palettes. I provided a safe option, a middle of the field, and a bold option. I took the company blue and green and went with it, and so did they! What a fun way to liven up finances! COPYRIGHT: 2016 AMB Architects, PLLC

This project is one of the elevator lobby and elevator cabs Renovations for AIG that I worked on. These are conceptual renders to show the owner how finishes would potentially look in the cabs. The renders also depict the new elevator hardware upgrades the building was thinking of selecting. They also include the recently upgraded building directory designed by another AMB designer. These images were also edited by a fellow colleague in photoshop.
