RESEARCH Spring 2023 PSY 357 course students (N=30) Photovoice: “what forms of oppression are silenced at CSUMB?” Mostly women (68%) and People of Color (84%). This class, Fall 2023 analyzed their data using thematic analysis and critical dialogues. We also created a survey for students to fill out after the event.
BACKGROUND This information was gathered through a forum organized on December 5th, 2022 by the Students of Psychology of Liberation and Healing. The event was the action component of our photovoice research
Recommendations for Next Steps Reaching out to Dining and Parking to speak to students
Findings: Students feel financially burdened and have no idea what student fees are actually funding. 77% of survey respondents feel significantly stressed by fees.
Increase communication and transparency between departments so they are well informed about the various policies that impact students. Allowing more time for students in PSY 357 to research and speak to the panelists before the event so the students are aware of how much knowledge they actually have regarding the topic if the accounting department can participate in future events
Holding regular events such as these to further educate more students
