MOVE-IN WEEK

(Month 11)

As a final step, make sure that your painter comes back to do one final touch up. You will receive a Certificate of Occupancy before you move in, verifying that the home is officially yours and livable. Now is the time to set up your insurance policy and hook up your electricity or natural gas line. Then, speak with your moving company and set a day and time to pack up your things and transport them to your new home. Finally, unpack, relax, and enjoy every shopping choice you made over the last year.

Advice from the Pros

What final inspections and documents are needed before I can move into my new home?

What is a builder’s risk insurance policy, and am I required to have one?

“To move in, you will need a Certificate of Occupancy; an Energy Compliance Form; an Elevation Certificate (for a flood zone); a Termite Certificate; homeowners insurance; and final inspection documents for the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.”

“Builder’s risk insurance provides coverage for the builder and property owner while the home is being built, insuring the structure itself and the installed contents. Most builders and lenders will require it, but even if they do not, it’s highly recommended.”
