(above) Just beyond the beautifully appointed woven shades lies the view, which the homeowners were anxious to preserve. (right- clockwise) Special installation allowed these shades to pull down versus up so as to maintain bathroom privacy. A mix of wide-panel plantation shutters and woven shades on the side of the house prove to be a perfect combination of style and privacy. Hidden tilt rod shutters provide a contemporary look with increased visibility. Blackout liners, which do not impact the look of the shades, block out the unwanted light in the homeowners’ media room.

t was a blank canvas, as most new houses are. This one, however, was beautiful in its simplicity. With rich hardwood floors, casings, and trim, the Isle of Palms residence seemed complete. “Why change what works?” was probably the question the homeowners asked their interior designer, Amy Trowman, when discussing window coverings. Amy, a veteran Lowcountry designer, understood their desire to avoid over adorning and embellishing the windows, which tends to be the standard practice in higher end

homes. Amy explained of the homeowners, “They didn’t want to do anything busy with the fabric or drapery, distracting from the focal point: the view.” So, with a distinct vision in mind, Amy partnered up with Judge and Kelly Fowler of Best Buy Blinds to create aesthetically pleasing—and minimally invasive—window treatments. “We go through the home and evaluate what the style is going to be and what the practical needs are in terms of privacy, lighting issues, view opportunities, and things like that,” describes Judge of his process with Kelly Fowler of Best Buy Blinds with Amy Trowman of Amy Trowman Design
