Prime Pest Protection A certain James Island couple purchased their marshfront home and promptly met with Mosquito Shield to solve their impending pest problem.

he Lowcountry is a notorious hotbed for a variety of pests. Most common among those nuisances are mosquitoes, but they certainly are not the only ones. “No See-ums,” gnats, and other flying menaces also make their mark on how much a homeowner enjoys spending time in his or her backyard. When this family moved into their house on James Island, they knew that the marsh beyond their parcel of land would present a challenge.

One of the first things the homeowners did was check out the companies around Charleston who offer to help keep the mosquitoes at bay. Once they discovered Mosquito Shield at the Charleston Home + Design Show and learned of the company’s particular method, they were sold. Kevin Jones of Mosquito Shield explains, “We use a proprietary blend that is 99.9 percent organic and comprised of mostly a garlic oil base. It also contains cedar oil, peppermint oil, as well as a small bit of a control product that is very low in toxicity. This
helps kill the adult mosquito, but the rest of the blend mainly repels them.” It wasn’t just the organic or low-toxicity factors that convinced the James Island homeowners to choose Mosquito Shield for their yard’s treatment.
