CRAFTED IN CHARLESTON

The Craftsmen: Jay Miller, the owner of HWC Custom Cabinetry, began the company over a decade ago as a way to provide a quality product and service to Charleston homeowners.

The Craft: Jay works with his growing team of woodworkers and machinists to create interior and exterior custom cabinetry for homeowners across the Lowcountry.

Jay’s Backstory: A few years into a career with the Navy running nuclear propulsion plants on submarines, Jay met a friend who had just started a commercial cabinetry shop. After some thought and prayer, Jay moved on from the Navy to what he thought would be a stepping stone into an entirely different, non-manufacturing related career path. Instead, what he found was a love for providing a vital service to homeowners who depend on their builders and subcontractors for quality products and communication. For each job that HWC Custom Cabinetry finishes now, they have a design team who sits down with the client to fashion the most functional cabinetry system for the homeowner’s needs, and then each person in the workshop diligently builds one part of the whole system from custom materials that will eventually be installed in the home.

Their Philosophy: Communication is the most important part of the process for Jay and his team. His mantra is keeping the lines of communication open creates more than just business, it creates friendships.
