English speaking day •

Program objectives: An informal & fun channel to build confidence in speaking English, a chance to energize the environment, also a tool to keep learning & development spirit go on

When: – Friday morning (half day) of the 3rd week of the month – Office (Kumho, Me Linh): once per month from 24 Feb to 21 Sep, 2012 – Plant: once per month from 20 Apr to 21 Sep, 2012

How: – Employee is expected to communicate in English in all topics – Department Assistant (D.A) or all employee is the “gatekeeper” – Violation will be fined by VND2,000 cash to be collected by D.A – Cash from violation is used for tea-break to be shared by all employee – Penalty applied for all, except in Manufacturing side, where MM+ still need to follow law but it’s optional for G grade employee, especially employee in operation where safety/instructions need to be strictly followed


English speaking day (cont.) •

Promotion & attraction: – Key kick-off people for every department (offices & plants): • Kumho: Chau, Vu (HR & CS), Le Minh (Finance/IT), Duy, Thu Huong & My (Marketing & Sales), Thuy (SC) • Me Linh: Thien Sinh, Xuan Thao • MP Plant: ask Thao

English club •

Program objectives: To create an informal community to encourage the usage, learning and development of English language within the company and, at the same time, a place where employees can relax and have fun with useful English activities and maintain the high spirit.

When: – Monthly from Feb – Sep 2012 (8 months)

Where: Kumho, MP plant

Activities: – English club newsletter: monthly update of hot news of our company (if any), stories from our offices & plants, from the society and around the world within the month, information & announcement of English club’s activities, funny stories. To be published in the first week of the month. – English club meeting: a monthly event containing of discussions and activities in English, host by a native English speaker & 1-2 facilitators. An opportunity for everyone to gather to learn & enjoy English.


English club newsletter •

Objectives: a channel for English everyone to update about key or hot news in our community (work place, society, around the world), to keep everyone updated about English club’s activities, news and announcements.

In charge: L&OD

Content: – AkzoNobel news update (can be AkzoNobel Global, or Vietnam, or Kumho, etc…) – Funny stories – Schedule & topic of English speaking day & club meeting of the month – Quote of the month – Picture/Photo/Story of the month

Introduction of the 1st meeting & about the leader/facilitator (10’) b. Ice-breaking game - Pyramid (30’): 5 teams – 2 representatives each. Each team has 7 words and 3 minutes to describe. Select 3 team to semi-final, and 2 team for final. Prize: English flash cards for the wining team’s representatives. c. Introduction about the topic (10’)

Share about special culture of a country you know or have been to (about the people, social and working culture, food, transportation,…)

– 4.50 – 5.30 (40’): Video show & discussion – 4 groups a. Video show about 4 different countries/cultures (SEAP – India – Europe – Muslim): how they celebrate new year (10’) b. From the video & from your knowledge, describe to everyone how each of these cultures celebrate their new year (30’)

Program objectives: a chance to practice English through a meaningful discussion on AkzoNobel related topics that build better awareness and engagement to the company. An informal & fun channel for competition that help to energize the environment in a high time context. A tool to keep learning & development spirit go on.

Time: 20 April – 8 June

Targeted Audience: G grade employee only – Individual or Group (up to 4 members) – Office: 100% in English – Plants (office in plants & operation): allow English & Vietnamese (50/50) for group registration. For individual, 100% English is required
