Lorraine Hoffman Director of International Student Program
It is my privilege to be a part of the International Student program here at CCS. I enjoy getting to know each international student individually as I help them acclimate to a new culture and a new learning environment. I am honored to lead them in reaching their highest potential as they embrace the many opportunities offered at CCS. International students entering 9-11 grades are invited to apply to Chattanooga Christian School. Students from many countries including China, South Korea, Italy, Spain, Moldova, and the Bahamas have become an integral part of the CCS community and have played a significant role in enriching our school.

CCS ATHLETICS We believe a successful athletic program develops studentathletes, sportsmanship, and commitment to giving our best to one another. There is long-term value in the life skills learned through competition and confrontation with success and failure through participation in athletics. We offer 12 varsity sports including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling. Janet Jian from Shenzhen, China Manager of the 2017 District champion CCS softball team.
OUR FACILITIES CCS features a 3,500-seat synthetic turf soccer/football stadium, 3 grass soccer/football fields, 3 gymnasiums, a wrestling room, an 8-lane track, a baseball field, a softball field, 6 tennis courts, and a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning facility.
HOST FAMILIES Host families are carefully selected for our program. Interviews, background checks, home visits, and references are completed to ensure that families will provide a safe and nurturing environment and assist students with the development of important life skills. Host parents attend an orientation program, and receive ongoing training, support, and supervision to ensure excellent care for our international students.
STUDENT PLACEMENT Much care is taken when placing students with a host family. Communication is encouraged between the home, host family, school, and student regarding academic progress and all aspects of life in America.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Integrity and life skills are essential to success. While living with an American family of high moral standard and being part of a faithful and supportive community, our students gain the following life skills: flexibility, conflict resolution, integrity, punctuality, independence, dependability, time management, consideration, and self-confidence.
WHY DO FAMILIES OPEN THEIR HOMES TO HOST? There are many reasons CCS families open their homes to international students. Some feel led to use their homes and provide care for students who are far away from their own families. Others see it as a way to bring the world into their homes and learn about a different culture and language while sharing their own. Eli Huston, 8th grade, is very happy that his family invited Keano Roberts into their home for the past 2 years. Eli grew up with one sister, and now he has a friend from the Bahamas that he considers a brother.

MEET THE DASSOWS The Dassows are a typical CCS host family. They have 6 children, 3 of whom have graduated from CCS, and Daniel who is currently a junior. Drs. Paul and Jeanie Dassow are active members of the Chattanooga community as well as the CCS community. They have hosted multiple times and believe that each international guest has uniquely enriched their family’s culture and their children’s worldviews. Dennis Xiang from Hubei, China, is currently staying with the Dassow family. “The boys,” as Dr. Dassow refers to them, often spend their weeknights reading together in the family study. When asked about his host family, Dennis replied, “My host family is kind to me. We take time around the dinner table each day to communicate and share our life.”
