CCT ABOUT US

The Chartwell Cancer Trust Supporting The Princess Royal University Hospital

T

he Chartwell Cancer Trust supports the Chartwell Unit at The Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough that serves patients from the Bromley Borough, Lambeth, Southwark and beyond in South East London and Kent. Our first fundraising in 2005 was to cover the cost of an extra Health Care Assistant in the Unit. We have since grown into a charity providing a range of support for NHS Services not only in The PRUH, but the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, Croydon University Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital. Support at The PRUH includes funding for additional medical staff, capital projects, equipment and training specifically for the Chartwell Unit.

We have raised money for:

• T he total refurbishment of the Treatment Suite and air-conditioning. •A “virtual Conferencing” facility for a cancer Multi-Disciplinary Meeting Room to host meetings where important decisions are made about the care and treatment of patients

diagnosed with cancer. The upgrade has greatly benefitted all patients diagnosed with cancer within the community that we serve. •C omputers and laptops for The PRUH’s Virtual Cancer Clinics and the Chartwell Unit. • Specialist wheelchairs, medical pumps and nursing equipment for the community nursing teams. • T he continuation of brain research on Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma research led by Consultant Haematologist, Dr Shireen Kassam. • In 2016, we were also instrumental in succeeding to overturn the management decision to close the inpatient Unit, an achievement which we are extremely proud of. •A new high performance scanner for the Breast Cancer Team. This state of the art ultrasound machine will allow enhanced precision imaging, more effective diagnosis and monitoring, and increased capacity and efficiency providing a definite improvement to patient care.

NEW AND ONGOING PROJECTS We are raising funds for a new Endoscopy Unit

in The PRUH and an additional Acute Nurse Specialist. Our support for Children’s services continues to expand, enabling ongoing enhancements to facilities and equipment in the Paediatric Oncology Units that we support along with the life-line of Patient and Family Support Groups and financial assistance packages. To reflect the expansion of our activities the children’s arm of our charity is now known as The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust. The money that you help us raise will be allocated to the hospitals and appeals we are supporting according to preference.
