In 1924, a group of young adults from Juniata College sought a place where they could retreat from the demands of a busy world, connect with God through His creation, and grow both as individuals and as a community of believers. Out of their search was founded Camp Harmony and they invited others to come and do the same as they had done. 90 years later, that vision and mission continues today. Camp Harmony is a year-round location where people of all ages are invited to experience the wonder of creation and to grow in closer harmony with God, nature, and one another. Each experience at Camp Harmony is unique. Located in the beauty of western Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands region, there is something to do in all four seasons: in summer’s warmth, autumn’s falling leaves, spring’s rain, and winter’s falling snow. We have developmentally appropriate programming for people of all ages and abilities. Whether it’s sleeping in a teepee, swimming in the pool, singing familiar and new songs, hiking through the woods, or making a friend, you’ll be sure to find something different or new to explore! In all these things and much more, though, we strive to connect all that we do to the Creator, to share His love, and to learn more about living a lifestyle of worship for God each and every day. So, you see, Camp Harmony is more than just a summer camp. We provide opportunities for individuals, children, adults, couples, and families to make memories that will last a lifetime and grow in a variety of ways. At the heart of all we do, for 90 years now, is the desire to share Christ with all who come through our gates and to bring glory to God. Whether you come to any of our year-round events, rent our facilities for your group, or send your child to camp, we hope you will also experience what God is doing at Camp Harmony!
SUMMER CAMP 2014
In an era of virtual tours, online social communities, and experiences at the touch of a screen, we feel as if the whole world is available to us. Oddly enough, though, that world can sometimes make us feel even more disconnected from it. We can go through albums of photos of someone else’s life without ever really knowing them. We can see someone’s emotional status without ever really connecting with their moments of pain or joy. We can have hundreds of online friends and still feel all alone. Even before the digital age, we have always been able to show the world only what we want them to see without ever being real. This summer, we will be learning about how Jesus came to show us all how to be real: to really love, to really care, to really live. By studying His life and getting to know the real Jesus, we in turn can find our real identity; we can be who God created us to be. Join us as we pull back the curtain and GET REAL!
ll of our camps offer a uniquely different A experience, but a typical day at summer camp will look something like the schedule you see on this page. Special emphasis is put on learning how God is a part of all we do and learning what it means to live the Christian life. Age-appropriate activities are prepared in order for each camper to grow socially, spiritually, emotionally, and physically as they learn special skills through camp activities. Our quality staff members are trained to meet the needs of campers on an individual basis and are positive role-models who will guide campers through these learning experiences. Each day is full of fun, friends, and lasting memories, so be sure to join us for a lifechanging camp adventure!

Participants in this program will be a part of summer camp as more than a camper, but less than a staff member. They will attend a portion of the same training as our summer staff, learning what responsibilities are involved in being a part of the summer camp staff and preparing for the challenges of working with peers, supervisors, and campers. They will then be assigned 2 weeks throughout the summer, 1 during the first half of the summer and another in the second half, where they will put their training into practice and gain valuable experience that will give them a positive, powerful, and meaningful edge in life. here are 5 key objectives that are addressed as a part of this program through training, discipleship, T and experience in a variety of roles at camp. They are: 1) Biblical Wisdom 2) Servant Leadership 3) Personal Responsibility 4) Honesty & Integrity 5) Perseverance & Work Ethic
CAUTION: If you’re interested in being a part of the Leadersin-Training program, you should probably know that this is an incredible opportunity. Camp Harmony Philosophy & Information
Camp Harmony’s goal is to help people of all ages to grow in a closer relationship with God, nature, and one another. We as a camp are committed to providing a safe, nurturing camp community through our emphasis on caring professional staff, developmentally appropriate camper-based experiences, opportunities for service, leadership, and personal growth, and experiential education with plenty of opportunities for discovery. We strive for excellence in all we do.
All of our Senior Staff are at least 18 years of age or high school graduates. They are all required to complete a thorough training course at the beginning of the summer. All of our Leaders-In-Training are over the age of 15, complete a thorough training course, and are directly supervised by a Senior Staff member. All staff and volunteers have submitted a clean federal background check. As part of their training course, our staff complete courses to become CPR/First Aid certified. A qualified health practitioner will be on the premises to dispense medications and treat any minor illness or injury.
Our Food Service & Hospitality Director is ServeSafe Certified and trains every food service employee in proper food handling and preparing techniques.. Our Food Service facilities and program are regularly inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. We follow guidelines laid by the American Camping Association for counselor to camper ratios and camping regulations. We are members in good standing with the Outdoor Ministries Association, the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau, the Johnstown Visitors Bureau, and the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce.
We are happy to welcome and accommodate campers with special needs. Please contact us in advance so we may work through any special needs your child may have. Camp Harmony is open to all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or special needs.
General Information & Policies LOST & FOUND
Camp Harmony is not responsible for items left or lost. We will save items we find for two weeks following your stay at camp. If they are not claimed in that time, we will consider them unwanted and dispose of them accordingly.
We encourage parents, friends, relatives, and pastors to write to a camper at camp. We recommend that you send mail as early in the week as possible due to the time it takes for delivery. In the event that your child has left prior to receiving his or her mail, it will be kept in our lost and found until the end of the summer camping season and then destroyed. Please do not send food or snacks to your child while at camp. We provide 3 balanced meals and a snack to every camper each day.
Participants in Camp Harmony camps, retreats, and events are asked to act in such a way that is respectful to God, other campers, staff, and camp property. The Camp Harmony Board of Directors has delegated authority to the Executive Director to dismiss any camper who does not abide by the guidelines.
For questions regarding insurance, please contact the Executive Director. Accidents/illnesses occurring while at camp are filed through the parent/guardian insurance carrier.
HOMESICKNESS AT CAMP
Some campers may experience what is known as ‘homesickness’- a general uncomfortable feeling that may cause stress due to a new or unfamiliar situation. Our staff are trained in how to properly care for and comfort a camper with these feelings and we believe growth occurs when we challenge ourselves to do new things. In this light, we do not encourage calls home unless all other attempts to encourage the camper have failed.
CHALLENGE BY CHOICE
Our programs are designed to encourage an internal center of control within each person by giving individuals the choice on how they want to participate. We encourage each participant to set their own goals and personal challenges. We strive to create a collaborative, cooperative and caring environment where choice is made by the individual and not as a result of negative peer pressure.
POLICY OF MODESTY
As a Christian camp, Camp Harmony has in place a policy of modesty which extends to all campers and staff alike. This policy is in place to encourage mutual and self-respect amongst all campers and staff. Please keep this in mind when packing clothing for your stay at camp. Swim wear should also reflect this policy. In that light, we require that female campers wear a one piece swimsuit or a suit that covers their midsection in addition to conservative neck and leg cuts and properly lined. Male campers are required to wear “boxer style” swimwear with athletic support.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION HOW DO I REGISTER?
There are 3 easy options for registering for a Camp Harmony camp: 1) Choose the camp/camps you would like to attend. 2) Fill out the registration form or register online at www.campharmony.org 3) Mail in the form and $50 non-refundable deposit. This deposit does not apply to Half Day Camps. After we receive your registration form, we will send you a confirmation of your registration, packing information, a health history form, and any other important information you will need.
WHEN SHOULD I REGISTER?
In order to ensure quality programming for all of our campers, it is recommended that you register for a camp as soon as possible.
FREE T-SHIRT & PURCHASE OF PICTURE CDS
Each camper will receive one free t-shirt with registration. A picture CD of your camper’s week at Camp Harmony will be available for purchase at the end of the week. Additional items may be purchased at the Camp Store.
No one should be denied an opportunity to attend camp because of finances. Your church congregation may pay a portion of the camp fee. Please check with them first. Funds are also available through the Camp Harmony Scholarship Fund for assistance to attend one camp program per person. The funds are available for those who request them, based on the written recommendation of the Pastor and/or Camp Representative to be included with the registration application. If no church affiliation is available, a written request must be submitted directly to Camp Harmony. All persons applying for a scholarship will need to make a formal application to Camp Harmony and pay at least a 25% portion of the registration depending on the need. Requests must be made prior to arrival at the camp. Requests on the day of check-in may not be honored.
Each person registering for and attending more than one camp program is eligible for a discount on registration costs. A 10% discount is available for all subsequent summer camps per year. Only one discount applies. This discount excludes Half & Full Day Camps, which already have a discount included.
Cabin requests must be made on the registration form and be a mutual request between both campers. We will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee them in all cases. Groups of 5 or more will most likely be separated.
CHECK-IN & PICK-UP TIMES
Camps check-in at 6:00 PM on Sunday at Faith Hall. Day Camps and camps starting on a weekday will register at 9:00 AM. Pick-up will be at 6:00 PM on Friday evenings at cabin sites. All of this information is the same from camp to camp unless otherwise noted in your confirmation packet.
Due to the rising demands on our camp, registrations are based on a first-come, first-serve basis. God is blessing us with more and more campers every year. Please register early to ensure your place in the camp you desire.
RELEASE OF MINOR CAMPERS
In order to provide security, it is our policy to only release a camper to his or her legal guardians or parents as indicated on the registration form. If you, as a parent or legal guardian, will not be picking up your child at the conclusion of camp, please notify the Camp Staff during registration. We will release campers only to individuals whom you have granted us permission to do so. 18

I waive the right to inspect or approve images for such purposes. I also acknowledge that, by their very nature, outdoor and camping activities involve some risk of injury.
