Female is beautiful

A creative ‘Big sister’ like monthly subscription editorial piece. Examining the culture and experience of being female. Offering advice and sourcing the latest crazy trends and creative pathways for females everywhere.

We live in an age when even ‘advice magazines’ offer false truths and expectations which we as women feel we need to follow in order to feel worthy. Femme is here to tell you that YOU ARE WORTHY. We are just here to give you creative inspiration and to be a helping hand when you feel lost. So, chill out, flip the pages, and let your creative and self-love juices flow.

Self-love is a fragile and ever-changing concept that we as humans, especially women, strive to achieve. Yet what is it? Well, it has been defined as ‘regard for one’s own well-being and happiness’. Therefore, our own interpretation of self-love is subjective and certain things may be classed as reaching it compared to others.

However, for women as a whole, I think it is fair to say that selflove is loving oneself. Loving our physical appearance, from our body to our facial features, to truly loving who we are from our chores. However, sometimes it is hard to truly accept ourselves and to achieve self-love.

Due to social media, the male gaze and stereotypes that have been created and imprinted in our minds since our early stages of life, such as in films, books, and what we see printed in fashion magazines and on Tv. Although we try not to compare, sometimes it feels almost impossible to be good enough to be loved and more importantly to have self-love.

The age we live in now, where every photo on Instagram is edited or the women, we look up to for their beauty have most likely been tampered with. It is impossible to compete in a world where natural beauty is truthfully not appreciated or idolized as much as the standards desired and potentially only met by going on unhealthy diets or sticking needles in our faces. However, self-love does truly come from within.

Empowerment
Self love|

Here are 3 steps to implement in your daily routine, to help work on creating a journey to self-love…

1)Take the first 5 minutes out of your day to look in the mirror and say 3 things you love about yourself. Yes, I know, this may seem cliché, however, it starts your day off by giving you confidence and accepting your own beauty. Your intentions begin positive and therefore you will feel in the right mind to start the day.

2)This one is a difficult one, as we all do it, it’s almost second nature. But try as little as you can to compare your looks to others. What good is it for? I know idolizing your favorite singer or fashion influencer online arguably induces endorphins such as serotonin and therefore we feel inspired to be a better version of ourselves. However, it can be argued that too much idolization of people can cause bitterness, jealousy, and overall, a negative comparison. So, continue to scroll on Instagram, but don’t get hyper-fixated. The people you idolize are just normal people with their own insecurities too. So, learn to idolize yourself.

3)This is arguably the most important. Stop being so hard on yourself. Take everything day by day. We have all been there where one day our hair sits perfectly, our lipstick doesn’t smudge, and we find the perfect outfit. However, there are some days that everything just seems to go wrong. And that is just life. Therefore, remember the good days and just know it will get better and you are enough. And with time you will achieve the self-love we are all worthy of.

All things Glossier

Divine Feminism

Divine feminism can be defined as an ‘energy’ which is in all aspects of life. The divine feminine is the spiritual concept that there exists a feminine counterpart to the patriarchal and masculine worship structures that have long dominated organized religions (Emily Torress, 2023).

While this talks about religion, divine femenism can be identified and practiced no matter your religion or even gender. In easier words it is the idea that female energy is carried throughout many/if not all aspects of life and we can tap into it and therefore become one with our feminine side and gain self-love and become more connected with our female inner being.

One way we can do this is by reflecting. In day-to-day life we lose touch with our true selves, all you have to do is internally connect to who you are and this can be done by writing in a diary or talking to yourself in the mirror. Go over what you have done in the day and how it has made you feel. This allows you to understand your emotions and connect with your feminine side.

Another way to tap into your feminine side and reach divine feminism is by being creative. If you think about a woman’s body, it is femininity expressed in human form, and our bodies are designed to create life. Creation can occur in many ways — artistic expression, writing, dance, painting, and dreaming up new ideas. Envision what you want to create. Anything that expresses your flow is considered feminine (Hppyearthpeople.com, 2018).

We as women should all get in touch with our feminine sides daily. With the fast pace of life, it is easy to lose thouch with ourselves and this can lead to dissociation, lack of self-love, and identity crises. Therefore, by practicing act that are described as ‘more feminine’, we can reach total self-understanding and live a happier life.

From style, self-expression and, uniqueness, creating new trends and classic looks. This page looks at the fashion icons of the last century.

Fashion ICONS of the DECADE

Fashion icons are subjective, some may look up to someone for their style and anothers may disagree and think their style is basic, weird or outdated. However, looking at the media over the past few years and what trends are forming and are coming in and out of the fashion world, there are many individuals whose names are always to be seen when the word ‘fashion icon’ is used.

For example, Sarah Jessica Parker, or as we know her ‘Carrie Bradshaw’. Fashionita in the 90’s hit series ‘Sex and the city’. Sarah Jessica was known and is still loved due to her classic 90’s, funky style. Sarah/Carrie will be in the books for years to come due to her timeless style, which is still worn by many today, who love the chic, 90’s girl look.

Of course, we have the bad B, Ri Ri. Rhianna is known for her ongoing trendy street style. Even when she was pregnant Rhianna was known as a fashion icon. If anyone is going to pull off a crop top while pregnant it is Rhianna. She is known for her bright colours and classic street silhouettes Rhianna is everyone’s street-style inspiration and therefore is always on the list of fashion icons.

“I like my money where I can see it, Hanging in my closet”
(Carrie Bradshaw).

Paris Hilton, now 42, is married and has a child. Is still known for being one of the most iconic fashion girls out there in the early 200’s. Rocking her juicy couture matching tracksuit and super low-waisted jeans a mini skirt. While the early 2000’s was over a decade ago, due to the circularisation of fashion trends, Paris is now back in the books for being a fashion icon of today’s decade.

Miss Bella Hadid. Every 17-mid 20’s fashion icon now. Bella’s fashion has evolved with her popularity from her modelling success. Bella Hadid is now one of the highest-ranked and paid models in the fashion indutry, so there’s no excuse for her fashion to be a flop.

Bella was once known for her ‘model off duty look’ but has now branched out and is known for her iconic low-waisted funky top and sambas outfit. Bella is every girl’s fashion inspiration and is 100% a fashion icon.

The 2000’s is back and Paris being the 2000’s queen, so is she and her fashion. Low-waisted jeans and a baby tee are back in fashion, along with ‘Y2K’ bags, belts and shoes. Even when the ‘Y2K’ trend has died down, Paris will always be known for icon looks.
