RED RAIDER PARENT What is the Parent Resource Center ?
"Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction." ~John F. Kennedy Dear T. Wingate Andrews Family, t is hard to believe, but we are just about to complete the first semester of the 2012-2013 school year! The end of the first semester grading period will be January 18, 2013. Parents, I encourage you to sit down with your son or daughter and review their academic progress for the first half of the school year. Now would be a good time to set personal and academic goals with your child as you review their successes and any areas that need to be addressed on the report card. Grades are a benchmark of a student’s academic progress but they do not tell the whole story about their ability and work habits. Be sure to acknowledge your child’s strengths, identify areas for additional support, and encourage them to utilize the resources provided by the school to reinforce their efforts in achieving academic success. Our first semester EOC testing will begin Monday, January 14th. In an effort to maximize our students’ success, we will continue EOC tutorials afterschool before exams begin, and on each exam day. Please see the exam day tutorial schedule below and encourage your child to participate in this valuable opportunity. Bus transportation will be available on each tutorial day. Monday, January 14th: 2nd Block Tutorials following dismissal Tuesday, January 15th: 3rd Block Tutorials following dismissal Wednesday, January 16th: 4th Block Tutorials following dismissal As always, parents, we need your support! Our combined efforts will help us reach our goals for our students and our school. Remember, our goals for this school year are: 1) Increase our composite score to 70%. 2) Increase student attendance to 94%. 3) Make AMO (Annual Measurable Objectives). Thank you for making T. Wingate Andrews the best place to learn! Go Red Raiders! Rodney H. Wilds Principal

F. B. I. FATHERS BEING INVOLVED
Guilford County Council of PTA launched The Real Men Are F.B.I. Program in the 2011 – 2012 school year. The new program focuses on increasing male involvement in our schools and local PTA units. This program promotes Fathers Being Involved in our schools and is geared towards fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, and any other male figure in the community that supports education and student success. Studies show that students perform better when both mothers and fathers are both involved in the education of their children. Men and women think differently and bring different perspectives and skills to school and PTA activities. School communities and PTA’s thrive when both men and women participate. Yet men remain a largely untapped resource. This program seeks to combat this phenomenon. The GCC of PTAs urges more men to join T. Wingate Andrews as volunteers in any way they feel the most comfortable. Increasing male involvement through the Real Men Are FBI program at Andrews will have a significant impact on our students’ success. For more information ways you can help, please contact Chris Herndon or Darren Cason at firstname.lastname@example.org
